Missing faces

Editorial history

23/12/11, CSG: Created page

A significant number of individuals mentioned in the correspondence of Sir George Oxenden, 1662-1669, remain unidentified.

Many of the individuals are mentioned just once in passing in letters sent to Sir George Oxenden. However, by firmly identifying them, it will add to our knowledge of the networks of friends, acquaintances, and contacts of the Oxenden family in this period.

The list of individuals below is subject to change as annotation of the correspondence progresses, with names being added and deleted.

How you can help

You could contribute to identifying unidentified or uncertainly identified individuals in several ways.

Firstly, you could make an identification and write a short foot note supported by primary and/or secondary sources to accompany the letter or letters in which the individual is mentioned.

Secondly, you could write a short biographical profile and post it to the wiki, using the standard biographical template

Index of missing faces

The following is an index of individuals mentioned in Sir George Oxenden's correspondence who are currently unidentified, or identified with insufficient certainty.

The footnotes to each name in the index contain links to the letter or letters in which the individual is mentioned.

Click on the link to the letter in the footnote and go to the letter. Each letter containing an individual who has not been identified or insufficiently identified has a footnote to that effect listing the name of the individual as one of the "Missing faces"
