Abstract & context

Francis Cobb wrote to Sir George Oxenden from Aschine, in a letter dated December 15th 1662.

In this letter Francis Cobb was was very cautious about condemning President Andrewes' and Lambton’s behaviour. Indeed, Cobb appears scared of Lambton as an enemy.

In contrast, Henry Gary in Goa (admittedly after learning of Lambton’s death) denounced Lambton for failing to pay a debt to him for three years.[1]

Randall Taylor, who seems to have known Sir George Oxenden well, and to have been involved in the SVJS in some operational way, condemned President Andrewes with considerable force.[2]

It is not clear what Cobb was implying when he mentioned that Vorah’s commission was not in the books
