Francis Chaplin was made a Knight Bachelor in 1670[2]

Chaplin's details are given in the 1677 London Directory as "Sir Fra. Chaplin Berry street[3]

Evidence from High Court of Admiralty

Francis Chaplin, aged thirty, describing himself as citizen and clothworker of London, deposed in the High Court of Admiralty on April 1st 1658.[4]

Chaplin's deposition was one of fourteen depositions, a remarkably large number for an High Court of Admiralty case.,
