- ↑ Robert Bowen wrote three letters to Sir George Oxenden in 1667 enquiring about the missing diamonds. Of these letters, the letter dated October 3rd, 1667, gives the most detail. This letter states that Bowen had sold seventy-four diamonds he had left in Surat with Oxenden to Christopher Willoughby, despairing of their arrival in England. He had made a loss of 100 pounds on the sale.(14th April 1667, Letter from Robert Bowen to Sir GO, Pladsto; 3rd October 1667, Letter from Robert Bowen to Sir GO, London; October 1667, Letter from Robert Bowen to Sir GO)
