Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Fifty year old Henry Shippman deposed on November 20th 1666 in the High Court of Admiralty.[2] He was examined on a libel in the cause of "Samuel Parke, Nicholas Bradly et lory propreitary navis the Comfort con the Hopefull Seaventure cujus Henricus Robinson [?ert] magister et con Dnum Emanuelem Sorrell militem ejusqur [?Notorios][3]
Henry Shippman stated that he knew the ship the Comfort of Ipswich (Master: XXX). In the middle of October 1666 the Comfort was coming from Newcastle with a lading of coals. She was forced due to weather to put into Grimsby Road in the River Humber and rode there for several days. Another ship, the Hopefull Seaventure (Master: Henry Robinson) also rode there for three days, about half a mile from the Comfort. Just short of midnight the Hopefull Seaventure fell foul of the Comfort.[4]- ↑ HCA 13/76 f.32v
