The 23th of March 1654 English
stile. [CENTRE HEADING]

On the behalfe of Joseph hammond, James}
drawater, William Cockcrofte and John [?Roy] of London}
Merchants touching the shipp the dulcibella}
of London whereof Edward harrison was master}
runn ashore neere Bullen in ffrance with her
lading of oiles.}

Joseph Hammond of London Merchant
aged 28 yeares or thereabouts, James
drawater of the same merchant aged 30 yeares
or thereabouts, and William Cockcrofte
of the same citie merchant aged 22
yeares or thereabouts sworne before the
right Worshipfull William Clerke doctor of lawes, one of the
Judges of the high Court of the Admiraltie of England, say
and deposeth ioyntly and severally as followeth videlicet.

That they theise deponents Joseph hammond James drawater and
William Cockcrofte together with John [?Roy] of London merchants were
and are the true and lawfull owners and proprietors of the said shipp the
dulcibella (Edward harrison master) lately run ashore neere Bullen in
ffrance, and of her lading of oyle of olives then on board her,
and that the said shipp and ladinge were and are wholly belonging to them.
And further that the said lading of oiles (amounting in the whole to 62
pipes or thereabouts) was laden at Majorca for their sole accompt
and consigned to be delivered to them or order in this port of London,
and that the said desaster of the said shipps runing ashore happened
as shee was in her homewards course of proceeding from Majorca for
this port of London. And lastly that they these deponents and the
said John [?Roy] were and are all English men, and all dwellers in
London, and subiects of the Commonwealth of England, and that
noe Spaniard or ffleming or other person or persons whatsever being in open hostilitie
with the kinge of ffrance have any interest whatsoever in the said oiles
or in any part thereof or in the said shipp, but the same are as aforesaid
wholly belonging to theese deponents and the said [?Roy]

Richard Smyth master, lately cast away}
upon the Needles in the Ile of Wight}

Tobias Blake of East Smithfeild neare
London Mariner aged 36 yeares
or thereabouts sworne as in the acts of
Court and examined upon certaine
Interrogatories ministred on the behalfe of the said John
Bewly and company saith and deposeth as followeth
videlicet

To the first and second Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth That
hee well knewe and was masters mate of the said shipp the William,
and that shee as sett out from hence by the said John Bewly and
company all English men and merchants of this citie with a cargo
of corne, tinne, lead and other goods for Bourdeaux in ffarnce, on
which voyage shee proceeded from Gravesend the twentieth of
ffebruary
