That in the moneth of October last the said John hart in this
port of London laded aboard the said shipp the Cock to be therein transported
for dublin in Ireland for the proper accompt of the said John hart nine
and twenty butts and foure pipes of Spanish wine, and consigned them to
be delivered at dublin to Adam Gold and to this deponent for the foresaid
accompt of the said John hart; And saith that the said shipp in her course of
proceeding in the said voyage for dublin, comming off the English lands
end was on or about the second day of January last met with by a
Brest man of warr and with the said goods (saving halfe a butt that was leaked out) and all other her lading seized
and carried into Brest, where the same were confiscated, and soe the
said wines were and are utterly lost to the said Mr hart, all which hee
knoweth seeing the lading of the said goods by the said Mr hart as aforesaid,
and going along with them in the said shipp and seeing the said seizure
and carrying into Brest, and losse as aforesaid. And saith the
said wines were then worth here 20 li per pipe, which for all the
parcell amounts to 650 li sterling, but at dublin the said wine would
have yeelded 30 li per pipe or more, besides [?her] cost to the valew of fifteene
pounds sterling in the clothes and necessaries of this deponent who is
his apprentice. And further that the said John hart had and was
owner of a quarter part of the said shipp, of this deponents knowledge
seeing the money (for which the said part was bought) paid oon the said Mr harts
behalfe, being 87 li sterling; which 87 li hee saith hee this deponent
by order and for accompt of his said master paid for the said quarter
part, And saith the said quarter part of the said shipp was and
is alsoe lost to the said Mr hart by the said seizure.
