The Lord Protector against the}
shipp the Leopard and the goods in the}
same, lately seized at Bristoll.}
Budd. ffranklin.}

Examined upon an
allegation in the acts of Court
made by mr Budd the
7th instant on behalfe of his
highnesse.

dt. Budd.

Thomas Barrowe of the parish of Porteshead
in the County of Sommerset husbandman, aged
30 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined.

To the said allegation and the exhibit therein mentioned nowe showed
unto him, hee saith and deposeth that the said vessell the Leopard
being on the fifth of december last past (or thereabouts) seized in
kingroade, this deponent was the same day put aboard her as a
waiter by mr Gill Searcher of that port: and that about a
weeke after such his comming aboard, namely on or about the 12th
of december last past hee this deponent sitting in the said shipp
in the masters Cabbin, and casually casting his eie up, hee perceived
the edge of a paper sticking betweene the ioist and the deck, which this
deponent tooke downe and opened, being the same paper exhibited
and nowe showne unto him, and hee remembreth it to be the same
by the forme and fashion thereof and manner of the writing that
is therein, and by the numbers thereon sett downe and more particularly
by the double rowe of figures tending downewards on the right
hand part of the first side, which hee tooke especiall notice of.
And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first hee answereth negatively referring himselfe to his
foregoing deposition.

To the second hee saith hee can neither write nor read the dutch
language.

To the third hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.

To the fourth hee knoweth not of any other paper or writing hat
was found aboard the said shipp saving that exhibitedd and before
deposed of, which hee saith was alone when it was found and
was sticking as aforesaid.

To the fifth hee saith that having soe found the said paper hee
kept the same two dayes space or thereabouts in his custodie, and
