Examined upon the foresaid allegation.

Rp. 2.

John Merry of the precinct of Saint Martin le grand
London citizen and leather seller of London, nowe a labourer
to the office of the Ordnance in the Tower of London,
aged 56 yeares or thereabouts, sworne and examined.

To the said allegation made in the acts of Court hee saith and
deposeth that hee this deponent was acquainted with the ship
the Content her being taken up and imployed in the service of
this Commonwealth about three weekes before the arrest in
question, which arrest happened (to his remembrance) in
the winter time and somewhat before Christmas in the yeare
1653, And saith that about the said time there
came a yonge man to this deponent upon Tower Wharfe, and
asked this deponent if the said vessel (then lying at Tower
wharfe neare the Crane) were in the States service, and this
deponent demanding of him whie hee asked that question, the
said yonge man answered, and said, Because I have arrested her.
And then the said vessel was of this deponents certaine
knowledge in the service of this Commonwealth, and
undischardged of the said service, and then lay there to deliver
out ammunition, which shee had aboard for the service of this
Commonwealth, and had a gun
belonging to the State then aboard and undelivered. And otherwise
hee cannot dispose.

To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first it is donne as is required, and referreth himself
to his foregoing deposition, and otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the second negatively.
