Transcription

To the fifth hee saith the said shipp and persons were at Marseille about
6 weekes before the buying and landing the said goods, and otherwise
hee cannot depose saving as aforesaid.

To the 6 negatively.

To the 7 hee saith the said sope is of the make of Marseille, and
otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the 8 hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, and otherwise hee cannot
depose.

To the 9th hee saith the master had papers aboard, but what became
of hee knoweth not, nor doth hee knowe of any burnt or made
away or hidd. And otherwise hee cannot answer.

To the tenth hee saith that the papers nowe showne unto him are the
dispatches and papers of the said shipp, and were as hee believeth aboard
the said shipp at the time of the said seizure. And otherwise hee
cannot depose.

Phillip Lawne of Severne in Suffolke
Sailer, aged nineteene yeares or thereabouts
sworne before the right Worshippfull John
Godolphin doctor of lawes one of the
Judges of the high Court of the Admiraltie
and examined upon the foresaid Interrogatories
saith and deposeth as followeth.

To the first and second Interrogatories hee saith hee well knew and was one
of the Companie of the shipp the Adventure interrogated, and knew
her for the space of tweo monethes before her casting away hereafter
mentioned. And saith that after Thomas Partridge last her the voyage
in question, his brother in law William Leatherman went master of her
and saith that a fitt of sicknesse tooke the said Thomas at hull which
caused alsoe a lamenesse in one of his leggs, whereby hee was utterly
disabled to proceede thence in the said shipp and was forced to stay there
and to put his said brother master of her in his place, his said brother
being before his mate, which this deponent knoweth for that hee
was one of the shipps company as aforesaid and present in her at
hull and afterwards to the time of her casting away

To the third fourth and fifth hee saith the said shipp went from hull to
Rotterdam, and thence was bound and going for hartlepoole, and that
in her passage from Rotterdam shee sprunge soe incurable a leake
that albeit shee was plied with three pumpes eight and fourtie houres together
by which her men were soe spent and tired that they were readie to dropp
downe
