Transcription

of the Lords the States of the United Netherlands were and are her owners
and saith that on or about the fifth of July 1654 new stile, the said
shipp with her lading of tobacco, stockings, brandewine, hides and
other goods taken in at Madenblick departed from Memblick and
went to Norway and there discharging her said lading, shee reladed
with 74 horses for the accompt of the said owners of the
said shipp to goe therewith to the Charibbe Ilands, and
departed therewith from Norway on the 29th of the same moneth
or thereabouts, and prosecuting her said voyage for the said Ilands
shee tooke in hay and water in the downes for her said horses,
and ariving neare the Barbada's the
Marchant of the said shipp named John Vosse went in her boate
ashore to the English Governour to knowe if hee might trade
there, and the next day hee retourned aboard, and said hee had
gotten leave pf the Governour to trade there, and certaine English
that came with him affirmed asmuch, and this hee saith was
on or about the 17th of September 1654, and having gotten such
license the said shipp went in and came to an anchor neare the
Bridge at the Barbada's, and there traded and sold and delivered
her said horses, and having soe donne the said shipp was taken
to freight there by the English to goe to the Salt Ilands or Cape
de ffarse Ilands to fetch asses to the Barbada's, whether accordingly
shee went and fetcht 38 asses and delivered them at the Barbadas
and shortly after such deliverie, the English fleete under the
command of Governour Penn came thither, and seized the said
shipp and turned the master and company ashore to shift for
themselves, and this hee saith was in the moneth of ffebruary
last, and that in and by the said seizure hee saith the said
owners were deprived of and have lost the said shipp (which was
carried by the English for hispaniola) and the profitt if their
said voyage, all which hee knoweth being one of her company
and going all the said voyage in her and seeing the premisses
soe donne, and that from thence hee got passage in the shipp
of [?Mr] [?Landon] of the Ile of Wight for England. And
saith the said shipp had not traded at the English plantations,
nor sold or received any goods there otherwise then as aforesaid
And that the said shipp tackle and furniture was worth about six thousand
gilders, and hee beleeveth the said owners by the losse thereof
and of the advantage of the whole voyage to be damnified
fiftie thousand gilders. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
