The first of September 1655

The claime of William Belyn of Amsterdam}
for the shipp the Crosse of Jerusalem}
Peter Martenson master and her tackle and furniture}

Examined upon an allegation on the
behalfe of the said William Belyn.

James Crosse of Saint Malo's Mariner, aged 32
yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined

To the first and second articles of the said alleagtion hee saith and deposeth
that hee well knoweth the producent William Belyn and hath soe donne
for theise fifteene yeares last past, and became first acquainted
with him at Saint Malo's where hee was borne and where hee the said Belin
lived till about tenn yeares since and then hee went for Amsterdam to
dwell and hath dwelt there since and hath kept
house and familie there for eight yeares last or thereabouts on the Reuseland where
hee yet dwelleth and hath bin maried there about foure yeares
last, which hee knoweth having very many times in that space bin
at his house there, and this deponent being a mariner hath
severall times served in shipps whereof the said William was owner
the said William being (as hee saith hee is) a merchant of very
good accompt and dealing, and was and is as hee saith a Burgher
of Amsterdam and a subiect of the lords the States of the United
Netherlands and for such commonly accompted, and that his wife is
a dutch woman, the daughter of a Burgher of Amsterdam whom this
deponent hath knowne. And otherwise hee saith hee cannot depose.

To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first and second Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth that this deponent
was borne at Saint Malo's, but hath dwelt foure yeares last at Saint Catherins
neare the Tower of London, and before that in ffrance and somtimes
in holland, being a Mariner and sailing from place to place, and
saith hee hath nowe noe relation to the said Belin though formerly
hee hath served him as a mariner, nor hath this deponent any part
or interest in the shipp or lading in question, And otherwise hee
referreth himselfe to his forgoing deposition.

To the rest of the said Interrogatories hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid
for hee doth not as hee saith knowe the shipp the Jerusalem
Crosse in question, nor ought of her voyage or lading, nor doth hee
knowe her master./

Lawes one of the Judges of the high Court of the Admiraltie
saith and deposeth as followeth videlecet.
