that hee well knoweth the sayd Symon Vrolingh who is a dutch man and knoweth that hee is
a factor at haverdegrace and Roane for all the sayd Zollicoffers, and that
hee alsoe well knoweth the sayd John Van Campen and Mark Peterson and
that they are hamburghers and factors at haverdegrace and Roane for
the sayd John Scrothering And further to these articles hee cannot depose
for that hee was not present at the ladeing of any of the sayd soape aboard
the sayd shipp the Switzer./
To the 4th article of the sayd allegation hee saith that for the reasons in his
foregoeing deposition declared hee beleeveth the arlate Joachim,
Lawrence, and david Zollicoffer, Mathias Zollicoffer, hance Conrade
Zollicoffer, and John Scrothering to be the true and reall Owners of
and Proprietors of the severall and respective parcells of soape aforesayd and
that they were soe at the tyme of the ladeing thereof and before, And further
hee cannot depose./
To the 5th article hee saith that hee well knoweth the arlate Joachim
Lawrence, and david Zollicoffer, Mathias Zollicoffer, and hance
Conrade Zollicoffer to be all of Saint Gallo in Switzerland and
subiects of the protestant Cantons of Switzerland, and the arlate
John Scrothering to bee a Senator of hamborough arlate and that
they are all of them in amity with the Commonwealth of England
And saith to the rest of the article hee cannot of his owne certaine knowledge
depose, but only by the letters of advise which hee receaved as aforesayd
touching the sayd shipps seizure and the sayd soape predeposed of, And
further saving his foregoeing deposition hee cannot depose./
To the 6th hee saith that hee hath knowne eight
hundred peeces of eight a moneth which is 180 li sterling paid for demorage
of the sayd shipp divers tymes when shee hath bin stayed or hindered of
her voyage, and soe much is usually paid for demorage of shipps of such a burthen
as the Switzer is, and further to this article hee cannot of his certaine knowledge
depose but hath heard that after the sayd shipp the Switzer was seized by
Generall Blakes ffleete shee was carried out of her course to Algiers
and stayed at Gibraltar and Cadiz by the sayd ffleete, soe that shee came not
to London soe soone as shee might otherwise have done by the space of three
moneths or thereabouts And further hee cannot depose./
To the 7th hee saith that the schedule arlate is his this deponents owne
hand writing and by him faithfully translated out of dutch and
is a true translation of a noate in high dutch which the
Purser of the sayd shipp the Switzer did give this deponent and which
hee told this deponent was a true schedule of the whole ladeing of the sayd
shipp the Switzer which shee had on board her at the tyme of her seizure
by the sayd Generall Blakes ffleete, with the quantitie of livers due to have
bin
