former voyages, and that he had an eight part of the said
shipp and of her lading of coales, and that during the sayd
Newcastle voyage he the said Grant did behave himselfe
as honestly as any Master that ever this deponent went
to sea with, And further he cannot depose saving that he
hath heard the maior part of the said shipps Owners say
and acknowledge that they had putt him the said Grant
in Master of the sayd shipp.

To the second and third article he deposeth and saith that
the sayd shipp being [?moored] in Ramsgate Road arlate the
producent about the latter end of May 1654 went ashore
at Sandwich to know of her Owners what he should further
doe concerning the sayd shipps lading, and that about 7 houres
after the producent was gone ashoare the arlate Mathew
Pindar came aboard the sayd shipp with fower or 5
men more, and this deponent having none aboard of the
sayd shipps company but a little boy did not hinder them in
comming aboard her, and about an houre after the sayd
Pindar askt this deponent if he knew why he the said Pindar was come aboard the
sayd shipp and this deponent told him he knew not, and then
the sayd Pindar told this deponent that he was come to take
possession of the sayd shipp, and this deponent asked him by
what authority, and that then the sayd Pindar shewed a paper
or writing, which this deponent could not read (as he cannott
write nor read written hand) and he further deposeth that
on the next day after the said Pindar and his [?XXXX] came
aboard the said shipp they were going to unmoore her and
this deponent did then beginne to oppose them therein, and that
one of the said Pindars Company tooke up a boate hooke,
and threatned him be quiett, telling him this deponent
that there was two to one And further he cannot depose

To the fourth article he deposeth that the producent being
turned out of possession of the sayd shipp (as he hath predeposed)
he complained thereof to the Vice=Admiralty Court at dover
and obteyned a decree from the sayd Court to bee putt into
the possession of her, and that by vertue thereof the producent
endeavoured to regaine the possession of her but that the
arlate Mathew Pindar would not lett the said John GRant
the producent come aboard her, notwithstanding the said
decree The premisses he deposeth becuse he was present
aboard the said shipp when the said decree was exhibited aboard
the said shipp by one Thomas Rushman, and when the said
Grant would have come aboard, but was not suffered by
the sayd Pindar, And further he cannot depose

To the fifth he deposeth that the Coales arlate were worth
about one hundred pounds, whereof the producent had
an 8th part And further he cannot depose.
