On the behalfe of Verschuren and Moorebeeb}
concerning the shipp the Swan of Modenblyck}

Examined upon the said Interrogatories./

2us./

Simon Sibrantson Groot of Schelling-Wouwe
neere Amsterdam in holland Mariner aged
19. yeares or thereabouts sworne as his precontest
and examined saith as followeth videlicet.

To the first hee saith, hee hath knowne the shipp the Swan of Menblick
interrate for about 6 yeares last past , during which time shee hath alwaies
beene observed to belong to that Port and place, and That her Owners were
and are Martin Jansen Cornelius heerties and one called Cromhout
Burghers of Modenblick aforesaid, and some others Burghers of Amsterdam
and all subjects of the United Netherlands Provinces, And further or
otherwise hee doeth not know beleeve or hath ever heard./

To the second hee saith, That the said shipp sailed from Medenblick
aforesaid in or about the moneth of July 1654:- last past then
bound for Norway, where shee tooke in a lading of horses, which they
brought to the Barbadoes, and afterwards sailed to the Cape de Vers
Islands where they tooke in salt and asses which they brought to the
Barbadoes, where the said asses and about half the salt were discharged
the rest of the salt remaining aboard when the said shipp was seized
at the Barbadoes by the English fleete, and were there disposed of by order
of the English Admirall Penn so farr as this rendent then observed this
rendent being one of the said shipps Companie at the seizre aforesai, and
saith the Master and severall of the said shipps Companie were left ashoare
at the barbadoes, and this rendent and some others of the Companie are
come over in English shipps, And further declareth, That soe farr as this
rendent heard or understood, the said asses and salt did and doe belong
to English, hamburghers and hollanders And further cannot depose:-/

To the third hee saith, That upon the said shipps first arrivall at or neere the
Barbadoes coming from Norway as aforesaid, one John Vosse the Cape
Merchant aboard the said shipp went there ashoare, and as this deponent
was by him and the Master and Companie informed did then and there from
the Governor of that place obtaine permission of and for a free trade and
traffique there, And saith it is notorious and publique, That no
hollanders or other forreigners then did or now dare to traffique in that
or any other English Plantation in those parts without such leave and
permission first obtained. And further cannot depose./
