The same day Examined upon the said Interrogatories [CENTRE HEADING]

Erasmus Wolfe of Vlerkneur in Norway
Mariner aged 24. yeares of thereabouts sworne as
aforesaid and examined saith as followeth videlicet
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that hee was one of the
Company of the shipp the Swan of Memblick the voyage in question and
first came on board her at Verkbeur in Norway about a yeare last past
and knoweth none of the Owners of her but saith hee hath heard by the
Master and Company of the sayd shipp (and beleeveth) shee belongeth to
Memblick in holland And further to this Interrogatorie hee cannot depose./
To the second Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that about a yeare since
the sayd shipp Swan departed from Norway with a lading of horses
directly bound from thence to the Barbadoes where shee safely arrived with
her sayd ladeing of horses and there disposed of them and thence sayled to the
Islands of Cape de Versche where shee tooke in a ladeing of salt and asses and
with the same returned to the Barbadoes aforesayd where having discharged
her selfe of the sayd Asses and about halfe the salt on board her shee
was seized by the English ffleete under the Commannd of Admirall Penn with
the rest of the sayd salt remayning aboard her and the sayd Admirall
soe farr as this deponent (then one of the sayd shipps company) could and did
observe did dispose of the sayd shipp and the salt on board her, and hee saith the
sayd Admirall caused the Master of the sayd shipp Swan and Company thereof
to be sett on shoare at the Barbathoes and there soe left came over from thence
in an English shipp and soe alsoe did others of the sayd shipps company
then there left And further to this Interrogatorie hee cannot depose saving hee
saith soe farr asn this rendent understood by the Master and company of the
sayd shipp Swan the sayd Asses and salt did and doe belong to English
hollanders and hamburghers./
To the third hee saith that upon the first arrivall of the sayd shipp Swan at the
Barbadoes the Cape Merchant aboard the sayd shipp (whose name as this
deponent hath heard and beleeveth is John Vosse did goe ashoare there,
and (as hee hath heard by the Master and Company of the sayd shipp) obteyned leave
of the Governour of the Barbathoes freely to traffique there And saith it is a thing notorious that noe
hollander or other foreigner then did or dare now to trafique there or in any other
English plantation in those parts without leave first had and obteyned
of the Governour of such plantations where they desyre to trade And further
hee cannot answere./
