Transcription

To the third Interrogatorie This deponent saith that the sayd shipp departed
with her lading from Bilboa about the latter end of January 1653.
last past of English stile, and in her passage towards the Te[?vrera]
and when she was come within about three leagues of the sayd Island
she was sett upon and assualted by a man of warr belonging
to Sally and after an houres fight wherein the sayd Browne
and others of his Company were wounded and hurt and her mizzend
mast shott downe she was by the sayd man of warr subdued
and taken, and the sayd Sally men did deseyre
the sayd shipp Unity and her lading being so seized for Sally
and putt about thirty Moores on board her for that purpose,
and tooke this deponent and the rest of the Unities Company into
their owne man of warr and carryed them to Sally, where this
deponent did credibly heare that the sayd shipp Unity and sayd
Moores in her neere to Santa Cruz was cast away and perished
And saith It is most certayne that the sayd shipp Unity and
her lading were and are wholly lost to the sayd Mr Andrewes and
Mr Y[?oo], and that they no reyther of them ever had any satisfaction
or restitution made unto them for the losses by them susteyned in
the taking and surprizall of the sayd shipp and her sayd lading
or eyther of them. And further or otherwise he cannot depose.

William Morris of Charles=Towne in New England
mariner late Carpenter of the sayd shipp the Unity
aged 36 yeares or thereabouts a witnes sworne
before the sayd right worshipfull John Godolphin doctor
of Lawes one of the Judges of the sayd Court of
Admiralty, and examined saith by vertue of
his oath as followeth videlicet.

To the first and second Interrogatories he saith he knew well the
shipp the Unity interrate and knew of her building in New England
and Mr Samuel Andrewes and Abraham Y[?oo] merchants interrate
were partowners of her and so accounted and were interested
in two thirds of her as he conceyveth. and this deponent sayled
in her from Charles towne to Bilboa, and was Carpenter in
and on board her this her last voyage begun from Bilboa. And
saith that in January last past 1653. English stile she tooke in
