Transcription

To the 16. hee saith hee is an Antwerper and a domestique servant to the
producent. And otherwise negatively/

To teh 17. hee referreth to his foregoing deposition And otherwise negatively and
cannot further cannot depose:/

To the 18. 19. and 20th hee cannot depose otherwise then is predeposed/

To the 21th negatively:-

To the 22th hee saith That for the reason predeposed, and by the knowledge hee hath of
the handwriting of Gerard Ryper wherewith the bill of lading annexed to the
Allegation is filled up, he well knoweth the said bill of lading to be one of the originall
bills of ladeing sent over from Cadiz by the Ordinary land poast to the producent
at Antwerpe. And further cannot depose.

To the 23.th hee saith the said bill of lading was by the producent sent over
by the packet from Antwerp to London to one Mathew Johnson a feathermaker here who since
delivered the same to Mr Smith one of the Proctors of this Court./

To the 24th, and 25th hee cannot otherwise depose, then hee hath predeposed.

To the 26. and 17.th hee hath heard that it is prohibited by the king of
Spaine to transport any moneys bullion or plate from thence without particular
Licence, yet the said prohibition notwithstanding, both the producent and severall
other Merchants of Antwerp have for severall yeares had their constant
returnes of silver from thence. And otherwise cannot depose: having never been
in Spaine, nor knowing any thing of the Lawes of that Nation.

To the 28. hee saith hee well knoweth the interrate Jaques de Brower who is
a ffactor to the said producent, and a Burger and inhabitant of Dunquirke, and
hath no interest in or title to the 600. pieces of eight predeposed.

Examined upon the said Allegation:

Anthonie Lois of Antwerp in Brabant Merchant aged 30.
yeares or thereabouts a Wittnes sworne and examined.

To the first and 2 articles of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth, That in the
moneth of March 1652 and in the moneths of March and Aprill 1653 all or
some of them the arlate John Smeesters the producent was and at present is and ought
to bee the true and lawfull Owner and proprietor of 600 pieces of eight contained in

two baggs marked with the marke in the margent, and for such the said producent was
and is commonly accompted and taken, And saith That in or about the moneth
of Aprill 1653. the said producent by his ffactor Gerard Ryper resideing at Cadiz
did lade and putt on board the shipp the White Angell arlate (John Lawson de Vischer
then Maser) the said two baggs containiening together 600 peices of eight and marked
as aforesaid to be transported in the said shipp from Cadiz where then shee lay, to
Dunquirke in fflanders and there to be delivered to the said producent or his assigne for
his accompt. The premisses hee deposeth for the reasons hereafter expressed. And
otherwise cannot depose:/
