Biographical synthesis
Edward Purdy (b. ca. 1603; d. ?). Mariner.
"Being one of the Company of the shipp Samuell and helpeing to brace and brayle her sayles as aforesayd and using his utmost endeavour to keepe her cleere of the sayd Otters shipp".[1]
Probable a commonman on the Samuell.
Resident in 1656 in Yarmouth in the county of Norfolk.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Fifty-three year old Edward Purdy deposed on October 13th 1656 in the High Court of Admiralty.[2] He was examined on an allegation on behalf of William Lee, the master of the coal ship the Samuell of London in "A businesse of exámination of witnesses to perpetuall remembrance promoted by William Lee the master of the shipp called the Samuel against Otter, late master of the shipp the Providence, and against all other".[3]
