Biographical synthesis
Thomas Bowdler (b. ca. 1622; d. ?). Merchant.
Purser on board the ship the Endimion Master: Gerald Couchman) on a a voyage to the East Indies from London to Bantam in 1656. [1]
Resident in 1657 in Shadwell.
Evidence from High Court of Admiralty
Thirty-five year old Thomas Bowdler deposed on August 20th 1657 in the High Court of Admiralty. He was examined on an allegation on behalf of the English East India Company in the case of "The Governour and Company of English merchants trading to East India and others against the Governour and Company of Merchants of the United Netherlands, thither trading".[2]
The case concerned the ship the Endimion (Master: Gerald Couchman) on a voyage from London to Bantam in 1656. Bowdler states that he went purser on the ship.[3]
