of the said producent, for his the said producents use and accompt. The<br />
premisses hee knoweth being Cashier and booke keeper to the said John<br />
Smeesters for 7. yeares last past or thereabouts, during which time hee<br />
hath had the perfect knowledge of all the negotiation and trade driven by<br />
the said producent to Spaine, and hath entred his accompts for all such goods <br />
as the said producent hath from time to time sent thither, and [?] scribed the<br />
letters of advice sent to the said ffactors and seene and presented letters returned by the <br />
same unto the said producent for and concerning the lading of the silver<br />
or moneys predeposed for the accompt aforesaid, as part of the returne <br />
of such goods as hee the said producent had at severall times sent unto his<br />
said ffactors to be by them disposed off for his owne accompt. And other<br />
wise saving his following deposition hee saith hee cannot depose.
To the fourth hee saith, That the ffactors predeposed before the ladeing of<br />
the said silver or moneys aforesaid writt unto the said producent, and<br />
sent their letters by the ordinary landpoast from Cadiz to Antwerp, by <br />
which letters they intimated their intentions to lade certaine quantityes of<br />
monies aboard the said shipp the ''Salvadore'' the ''Sampson'' and the ''Saint''<br />
''George'', and snice the ladeing of the severall parcells of money as is<br />
predeposed they the said ffactors in the moneths of August Septeber<br />
October and November in the yeare 1652 or some of them sent letters over land to the said<br />
producent, whereby they signified unto him That they had laden the<br />
respective parcells of peeces of eight in the shipps aforesaid for his<br />
the said producents accompt, and togeather with the said letters they sent<br />
unto him the bills of lading now annexed to the said Allegation, some of <br />
which letters and bills of lading came to the hands of the said producent<br />
within the 7 moneths last predeposed, And<br />
saith that the said bills of lading were and are really and truely 1<br />
of the Originall bills of lading for the respective peeces of eight therein<br />
severally mentioned, one thereof being subscribed by the Scrivano or<br />
Purser of the said Otto George, and the other three by Christian<br />
Cloppenburch and John Martin mentioned in the said bills respectively, <br />
And saith That there were foure bills of ladeing more of the same<br />
[tenour] respectively with the bills allegate, seized on board the said shipps<br />
respectively, and now remaining in the Registry of this Court. The <br />
reasons of his knowledge of the premisses being these, videlicet That <br />
this deponent being at aforesaid Cashier and booke keeper to the said <br />
producent saw and perused the severall letters of advise sent from the<br />
said ffactors together with the bills of ladeing now annexed to the<br />
Allegation, and thereupon entred the said respective parcells of silver <br />
into the said producents booke of accompts, And saith hee hath severall<br />
