be discharged and delivered unto Philip de Pape Agent for and Correspondant
of the said producent, for his the said producents use and accompt. The
premisses hee knoweth being Cashier and booke keeper to the said John
Smeesters for 7. yeares last past or thereabouts, during which time hee
hath had the perfect knowledge of all the negotiation and trade driven by
the said producent to Spaine, and hath entred his accompts for all such goods
as the said producent hath from time to time sent thither, and [?] scribed the
letters of advice sent to the said ffactors and seene and presented letters returned by the
same unto the said producent for and concerning the lading of the silver
or moneys predeposed for the accompt aforesaid, as part of the returne
of such goods as hee the said producent had at severall times sent unto his
said ffactors to be by them disposed off for his owne accompt. And other
wise saving his following deposition hee saith hee cannot depose.
To the fourth hee saith, That the ffactors predeposed before the ladeing of
the said silver or moneys aforesaid writt unto the said producent, and
sent their letters by the ordinary landpoast from Cadiz to Antwerp, by
which letters they intimated their intentions to lade certaine quantityes of
monies aboard the said shipp the Salvadore the Sampson and the Saint
George, and snice the ladeing of the severall parcells of money as is
predeposed they the said ffactors in the moneths of August Septeber
October and November in the yeare 1652 or some of them sent letters over land to the said
producent, whereby they signified unto him That they had laden the
respective parcells of peeces of eight in the shipps aforesaid for his
the said producents accompt, and togeather with the said letters they sent
unto him the bills of lading now annexed to the said Allegation, some of
which letters and bills of lading came to the hands of the said producent
within the 7 moneths last predeposed, And
saith that the said bills of lading were and are really and truely 1
of the Originall bills of lading for the respective peeces of eight therein
severally mentioned, one thereof being subscribed by the Scrivano or
Purser of the said Otto George, and the other three by Christian
Cloppenburch and John Martin mentioned in the said bills respectively,
And saith That there were foure bills of ladeing more of the same
[tenour] respectively with the bills allegate, seized on board the said shipps
respectively, and now remaining in the Registry of this Court. The
reasons of his knowledge of the premisses being these, videlicet That
this deponent being at aforesaid Cashier and booke keeper to the said
producent saw and perused the severall letters of advise sent from the
said ffactors together with the bills of ladeing now annexed to the
Allegation, and thereupon entred the said respective parcells of silver
into the said producents booke of accompts, And saith hee hath severall
times
