Transcription

To the third and 4th articles hee deposeth That this deponent the time aforesaid carryed a letter
from Bruges to Amsterdam from the sayd Abraham Van Susteren to his
ffactor Gisbert Van Susteren to the effect that the sayd shipp should
be delivered up to this deponent for the sayd Abraham Van Susteren, which he
this deponent delivered to the sayd Gisbert Van Susteren, and at that
time of his being at Amsterdam saw the foresayd money payd and then
was puy Master of her by the sayd Gisbert as the factor of the sayd Abraham
which place hee accepted of, and whereas shee was before called the
Swineheard he called her (according to the directions hee had from the sayd Abraham
at Bruges) the New Exchange of Bruges, and caused it to be pictured
in her sterne, and ever since shee hath gone by the name of the New
Exchange or New Bonese of Brudges et alr nescit./

Ad 5um et 6um [?XXX] as deponit That the sayd Abraham Van Susteren did at Bruges
before this deponents going for Holland give him order to hire marriners to
bring the sayd ship from Amsterdam to Ostend, and gave him charge to hire
free persons to wit Dantzikers, Ostenders, Swedes, and such like, and not to
hire any enemyes to England and gave him
about 100 Rix dollars
to carry with him for passage money and for some necessaryes for the sayd
ship, And saith that according to his sayd order hee did at Amsterdam
hire twelve men and two boyes to serve in the sayd ship and they were and are
all as they sayd as they affirme and upon his hiring them as hee beleeveth free persons from [?XX] of this kingdome
to witt persons of Bruges, Dantzyk Swqeden and [?Bremen] Hamborowe and such free
places and none are reputed to be subjects either of the States of the
United Provinces, Denmarke or ffrance et alr nescit/

Ad 7um arlum deponit That when the sayd money was payd for the sayd ship
there was present besides this deponent four of his men who are
alsoe sworne herein, and the foresayd Money was payd to the sayd De Swan
in his the sayd De Swans house and was soe payd upon the sayd Abraham
Van Susterens account And hee the sayd Abraham hath ever since as hee beleiveth
bin the owner of the sayd shipp and appurtenenaces and hee knoweth noe better
nor otherwise et alr nescit./

Ad 8um 9um 10m 11um et 12umpred et deponit That after this deponent was in the possession of the sayd ship
hee caused her to be repaired at Newindam in Holland whether hee was
forced from Amsterdam by foule weather and hee there gott her calked and Tallowed
and a little mended (that place being a place propper for that purpose and hee there
furnished her with provisions and shee having noe colours at all when shee was
bought, hee did at Amsterdam buy the Burgundian Colours and carryed
them in her and noe other and the charges of the premisses came to about three
hundred Guilders, which the sayd Gisbert Van Susteren furnished or disbursed on the sayd
Abrahams account, And saith that the sayd ship being soe fitted shee sett saile
from the Vly under the conduct of this deponent and her sayd Company to Ostend
and safely arrived there in or about Aprill last and left the sayd Abraham
hee at his going from Bruges at his choice to goe either to Drunton in Norway to lade deale
or to ffrance to seeke a freight and gave him a bill of Exchange upon
one at Norway if hee went thither to pay for the Intended Lading of
Deales which was to have bin on the account of the sayd Abraham Van Susteren
and saith that hee steered first for Norway intending to fetch deales and carry them to ffrance but
the wind being contrary and hee meeting with a ship that informed him that Deales
yeelded but about 35 guilders a hundred in ffrance hee then
