Transcription

yeares last past hath applyed himselfe to a seafaring life partly
in the shippes of others, and for theis fifteene monethes now
past as master and Owner of his owne forementioned shipp the
John of London, and sayth he is taxed and doth pay taxes to support
the burthen of the Commonwealth videlicet three shillings or thereabouts
meonethly. And further or otherwise he cannot depose.

To the 8th he saith he hath knowne of the dependency of this suit
in the Admiralty against the sayd three shipps nere about two yeares,
and hath knowne the effect of what he hath now deposed ever
since about August 1653. And otherwise he cannot depose

To the 19th. he saith he did write the foresayd information in the sayd
schedule or paper mentioned now and before shewne to him and
aacknowledged to be his handwriting and did deliver the same to
the sayd Catharine Wedge of purpose to make use thereof in the
informeing the truth to this Court, but did not so deliver the same to
the sayd Wedge because of any conceit that he could not be both
an Informer and a witnes but because he being a seafaring
person it was uncertayne whether he should be att home when
the sayd paper might be of use. And further cannot depose.

To the 20th he saith he saith he was not att any tyme heretofore examined
as a witnes in this cause videlicet not before this present day. And
otherwise cannot depose.

To the .21th. he saith he doth beleive the sayd shipps Sampson
Salvador and Saint George with their ladings are good prize
and he desires that Justice may take place, and were it in
his power he would informe his Judgment in the meritts of
the cause the best he could and adiudge them according to
what he should find the Law to be upon the whole matter. And
otherwise he cannot depose not desiring their condemnation as
he saith unlesse there be good ground of law for such adjudgment

To the 22th. he saith he doth not hope or expect to obteyne any part of
the sayd shipps or any of their lading incase any of them or
all of them shall be adiudged prize. And further cannot depose

To the 23th. he saith he hath and doth endeavour to prove the sayd
shipps Sampson Salvador and Saint George and their lading to
be prize so farr as he may in the way of Justice. and not
otherwise. And further cannot depose.

To the 24th. he saith he hath rendred the grounds of what
he knoweth and beleiveth in the particulars aforesayd, in his
foregoeing deposition, whereto he referreth himselfe, And
further or otherwise he cannot depose.
