the summe of 34 li 10 s sterling, which hee knoweth by the [?backes] aforesaid
and hath seene the letters and orders of the said Rumbida for making the
said Assurance, and otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 18 hee cannot depose.
To the 19th hee referreth himselfe to the Registrie of this Court, And
otherwise hee cannot answer.
To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true.

The 23th of November 1655. [CENTRE HEADING]
A businesse of examination of witnesses on the part and}
behalfe of John Thompson and company owners of the}
shipp the Small Mallega merchant and her lading}
concerning the seizure of the said shipp and lading at}
Hispaniola at or neere Santa domingo by subiects of the}
king of Spaine, and concerning the imprisonment of the}
said Thompson and his men there}
Examined upon an allegation given
in on the behalfe of the said
Thompson and Company on the
21th of this present.

Mariner aged 43 yeares or
thereabouts sworne and
examined.
To the first article hee saith that the time arlate the producent John
Thompson and company were owners and proprietors of the shipp arlate
called the small Mallaga Marchant and of her tackle, furniture and
lading of salt arlate and other goods, and for such commonly accompted and
reputed, which hee knoweth being one of her company namely cooper of
her.
To the second article hee saith and deposeth that within the said time the said
John Tompson being in the quiet possession of the said shipp and lading
and sayling with the same betweene salt Turtudas and new-England
was met with by a ffrench man of warr, which did rifle and pillage
her of all her victualls and provisions which shee had for her companies subsistence
the said voyage, leaving them in greate danger of perishing in the sea
through want of victualls, which hee knoweth being one of her
companie as aforesaid.
To the third, fourtha nd fifth articles hee deposeth and saith that being plundred
and deprived as aforesaid of their provisions and victualls, soe that there
was noe hope of subsistence at sea without present supplie, the said
Tompson and company for the preservation of their lives were forced to put
into hispaniola neare the harbour of Santo domingo with
their shipp and lading, there to get victualls and water to keepe them
from famishing, and hanging out a flagg of truce, there came an officer
aboard from the Governour, to whom they declared their condition, and went
and dessired to be supplied, and hee assuring them that they might speed, and freely goe
in and out, the said Tompson went ahsore with him to the Governour and
afterwards
