The 21th of November 1655.

Thomas Browning master of the shipp the}
ffortune and Richard hasleton against Joseph Tilley}
and others, owners of the same.}

Examined upon an allegation given in
this cause on the behalfe of the
said Browning and others.

Rp. jus

John Wheelewright of Saint Buttolphs Bishopsgate London
Armourer aged 44 yeares or thereabouts a wittnes sworne
and examined saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./

To the first article hee saith for that hee was one of the Company of the arlate
shipp the ffortune in the voyage in question hee knoweth that the arlate Joseph Tilly
Robert Cordall Adrian Vanderpost and Company were commonly reputed and
accompted to be true and lawfull Owners and Proprietors of the sayd shipp
ffortune and of her tackle apparrell and furniture from about the
25th day of July 1654 and untill the tyme shee
was cast away which was in the moneth of Aprill 1655 And further to this
article hee cannot depose/

To the 2 and 3 articles of the sayd allegation hee saith for that hee was as
aforesayd one of the Company of the sayd shipp the voyage in question hee
well knoweth that the arlate Thomas Browneing did take upon him the
Care and government of the sayd shipp the ffortune for the voyage in question
which was to be made from this Port of London to Sally in Barbary and from
thence to other parts beyond the seas and soe back to this Port of London and saith that
in persuance of the sayd voyage the sayd Thomas Browneing did goe master of
her and that the Arlate Richard hasleton did goe a Mariner in her
and a servant to the sayd Browneing and saith hee knoweth not what tyme
Thomas Browning and Richard hasleton did enter into full pay for that
hee came not aboard till the moneth of July 1654 when shee was ready to sett
sayle from Gravesend on the sayd voyage neither knoweth what the sayd Browning did agree for by the moneth either for himselfe or his sayd man And hee saith the sayd shipp arrived
safely with her outward Cargo at Salley in the moneth of August 1654 and
there delivered pasrt thereof and sayled thence to Santa Cruse in Barbery
and there delivered the greatest part of her outward ladeing
then on board her, and there tooke in new ladeing intending to sayle to Sally
againe but was driven by fowle weather to Tittiwan in Barbary where
shee delivered severall passengers and some goods and endeavoured thense
to sayle to Sally aforesayd but by stresse of weather lost all her Anchors and was forced into
Cales and there delivered the greatest part of her ladeing on or about
the 25th day of March last the premisses hee
deposeth being on board and an eye wittnesse thereof And further to these
article hee cannot depose/

To the 4th hee saith hee well knoweth that from the tyme that hee this deponent
became one of the sayd shipps company which was in July 1654 untill the
25th day of March last the arlate Thomas Browneing as Master thereof
and Richard hasleton as his man and a mariner of the sayd shipp did
continue in the sayd shipp the one as Master and the other as a
mariner thereof and did their service therein during the sayd tyme and further
hee cannot depose/
