Transcription

howbeit hee saith the master was determined, and the English aboard
the Pease brought her under commannd of the other shipp, being
English, and soe shee was carried to the said fleete, and there their master
being in the Admirall this deponent and the rest of the Peases company
and the next day they were carried againse aboard their owne shipp
and willed to take their clothes for they must goe ashore, which they being
loath to doe, the English [?hasted] them and bidd them dispatch for they
must presently ashore, and soe hee saith they were turned ashore and
not suffered to eate aboard at their departure (as they desired) and saith
that two or three of their companie were kept aboard to looke to the
Negro's, and after two or three dayes they were alsoe sent ashore, and
soe they were quite deprived of the said shipp and of the said Negro's
being about two hundred and fiftie which were sold and
disposed of by the English at the Barbada's, and the shipp sent
by them for hispaniola, each of the said Negro's worth about
fifteene hundred pounds of sugar, each pound there then worth
betwixt two stivers and a halfe and three stivers, and the said shipp
worth in his estimation six thousand gilders, with her tackle and
furniture, and this seizure hee saith was about six monethes
since, and thereby the foresaid owners were and are deprived and
have lost the said shipp and negro's, and the shipps company
put to shift for themselves, this deponent getting passage thence
in an English shipp, and saith that before the said seizure this
deponent had neither bin nor traded at nor received any goods from
any of the English plantations, but shee was seized on the open
sea under saile, as aforesaid, All which hee knoweth being
aboard and seeing the premisses soe donne. And saith that besides
the said Negro's there were in and seized aboard the said shipp about 300
Eliphants teeth, worth 18 stivers per pound.

company owners of the shipp the Armes}
of ffarnambuck of Amsterdam. seized}
at the Barbada's/}

John Adamson native of Amsterdam
but dwelling lately at Reciff in
ffarnambuck aged 23 yeares or thereabouts
sworne as in the Acts of Court, saith
and deposeth as followeth.

To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that hee well
knoweth the shipp the Armes of ffarnambuck interrogated
and hath soe donne for theise seaven monethes last or thereabouts
and that the producent [BLANK IN MANUSCRIPT] Swertz and other dutch, subiects of the
States of the United Netherlands were and are commonly accompted her
owners, and that the said shipp is as hee beleeveth belonging to the
port of Amsterdam and for such commonly accompted, And otherwise
hee cannot depose, saving what followeth.
