Examined upon the sayd allegation/

Thomas Bryan of the parish of Saint Buttolph Algate
Cittizen and Cooper of London aged 25 yeares or thereabouts
a wittnes sworne and examined saith and deposeth as followeth
videlicet./

To the first article of the sayd allegation hee saith that hee this deponent
was Cooper of the Charles of London a shipp who roade in Yorke River
in Virginia neere to the arlate shipp the hopefull Adventure, and thereby
being in a boate neare her the Adventure well observed rgar ger Company
upon the Thursday which was the day next before the leake in this allegation
specified sprang or at least was discovered to be sprung, did worke at
her pumpe, and pumped her drye at two spells that is
about halfe an howers
tyme, three men plying the pumpe togeather And further to this article
hee cannot depose./

To the second third and fowerth articles hee saith that the next day after this deponent sawe the
sayd Company soe pumpeing the sayd shipp the hopefull Adventure
sprange a leake and received thereby about five or sixe foote
water in hold, which the arlate Seaverne and Woods perceiving
they procured divers of the Company of the shipp Charles aforesayd
to helpe them to pumpe, and with much labour cleared her of a great deale
of the water received, and this deponents Contest Robert fflewen
Carpenter of the Charles aforesayd and the Carpenter and Carpenters
Mates of the hopefull Adventure searched diligently to find her
leake, but could not at present finde it, it being (as afterwards
appeared soe lowe under water) which the sayd Seaverne and
Woods and other her Mariners perceiving they caused her ladeing
or a great part thereof to be taken out, and then the sayd
Carpenter and mates of the sayd shipp the hopefull Adventure
togeather with the Carpenter of the Charles aforesayd did againe
search and at last found the sayd leake to be about the Rouge
heads of the sayd shipp about five foote and better underwater,
and that it was an old trumell hole which was rotted
and in which there was much duite and grasse and weedes
which had gathered and bredd therein, this hee deposeth being one
of the Company of the Charles and being on board the hopefull
Adventure and seeing the sayd Leake, and seeing divers of
the Company of the Charles alsoe worke at the Adventures pumpes
