Transcription

in the presence of Stephen Rich whose name is subscribed on the back of the sayd
writing and in the presence of him this deponent And hee saith the contents of
the sayd writing were and are true and soe had and done as in the same is
expressed And this deponent well knoweth the whole body of the sayd writing
or bill of sale and alsoe the name William Bower servant to
John Ralphe Scrivener: on the back of the sayd writing to be his this deponents owne
hand writeing And further hee cannot depose./

To the rest of the Interrogatories hee is not examined by direction of the producents

Examined upon the Crosse Interrogatories on the behalfe of the Ensurers/

To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee was none of the company of the Rebecca interrogat
the voyage Interrogate, but was only a witnes to the signeing and sealing of a bill of sale by the
foresayd Mr Maurice Thompson to the foresayd Adam Jennings of a fowerth part of
her in manner predeposed but saw not the sayd shipp, nor knoweth when shee sett sayle from
London nor in what plight shee then was, nor whether shee proceeded, And further to
this Interrogatorie hee cannot answere/

To the second third 4th and 5th Interrogatories hee cannot depose for that hee was
none of the sayd shipps company the voyage interrogate nor acquainted with any
of the transaactions happening during her voyage./

On the behalfe of Michaell Spicer of}
London Merchant concerning a losse in}
the Michaell of London}

Rp. 1.

Joseph Capewell of Ratcliff mariner
late boatswaine of the said shipp aged
23 yeares or thereabouts sworne before the
right Worshippful John Godolphin doctor of lawes
one of the Judges of the high Court of the Admiraltie
and examined upon certaine Interrogatories ministred
on the behalfe of the said Michaell Spicer saith
as followeth.

To the first and second Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth that
hee well knew and was boatswaine of the said shipp the Michaell
at such time as shee was last at Palma one of the Canary Ilands, from
which Iland shee departed in May last bound for Galloway
in Ireland; and saith there were before such her departure laden aboard
her by one mr Stephen Spicer as factor of and for the producent
Michaell Spicer and for his the said Michaells accompt about four score
pipes of Canary wines and a parcell of Brazill wood, fusticke
sassaperill and some other drugs the quantitie whereof hee knoweth
not, but saith the said shipp being of the burthen of 50 tonnes or thereabouts
was wholly laden with the said 80 pipes or thereabouts of wines
brazill wood and drugs for the said mr Michaell Spicers accompt, and
assoone as shee was fully laden shee departed thence for Galloway
aforesaid. All which hee knoweth being boatswaine of her and
otherwise hee cannot depose.
