Amsterdam Mariner aged 21. yeares or thereabouts
a Wittnesse sworne before the right Worshippfull John
Godolphin soctor of Lawes one of the Judges of the
high Court of Admiraltie saith as followeth videlicet

To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth, That hee well knoweth the shipp
the Swann interrate whereof Simon Peterson was Master, and saith shee
belonged to the Port of Medenblick in holland, and saith That the
Owners thereof were and are the said Verschuer and Moorbeeke Burghers
of Amsterdam and Martin Jabson, Cornelius heerties and one
Cromhout of Medenblick in holland, and for such they were and are
commonly and generally esteemed and reputed, The premisses hee declareth
for that hee this examinate hath served in and aboard the said shipp from the
6th of Julie 1654 last past, till the time of her late seizure by the English
at the Barbadoes. And further cannot depose./

To the second hee saith the said shipp departed from Memblick in
holland upon or about the 6th of July 1654 last past, being then bound
for Norway to take in horses to be transported to the Charibian Islands
And saith That before her late seizure her last voyage was from the
Cape de Versche Eylanden for the Barbadoes laden with salt and
asses, the said asses at the time of her seizure being landed at the
Barbadoes, and about halfe of her salt, the rest remaining aboard,
but the worth thereof hee saith hee knoweth not, and saith the shipp
and residue of salt were seized and taken at the Barbadoes by
some of the English ffleet in the moneth of ffebruary 1654
English style, and saith the said shipp upon such her seizure was
employed in the service of this Commonwealth, and that this rendent
left her Master there, but most of her Companie are since transported
and come into England or the Netherlands, this rendent being one
thereof, and saith the said salt remaining aboard being laden at the
place aforesaid by an English Merchant did as this rendent beleeveth
belong to him And further cannot depose./

To the third hee saith, That at the time the said shipp was at the Barbadoes
the said master Simon Peteron had (as this rendent then and there was
credibly informed both by the sid Master and others), permission from the
Governor of that place freely to traade and traffique there without lett
or molestation, And soe much hee saith was then and there publique
and notorious, and thatthe goods there disposed of and sold were soe
disposed off by the said Governors permission, Which hee declareth for
that hee this examinate then being one of the said shipps Companie
well knoweth that no hollanders or other strangers doe or dare to
traffique there without such permission first obteyned. And further
cannot depose:-
