Transcription

To the Crosse interrogatories in the second place being 13:-/ [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first hee saith hee this rendent hath knowne the interrate William
ffowke for about 4. yeares last, and the interrate Edward ffowke and Richard
Chewne onely that Voiage, and first sawe them at Aleppo about three yeares
since, and saith That being Merchantsd they goe from place to place as their
Merchandizing affaires doe call them, and hath since the yeare 1651. seene the said
Chewne as hee came along with the Convoy aforesaid into Italie, and hath seene
the interrate ffowkes both of them here at London severall times./

To the second hee saith the interrate ffowkes and Chewne are commonly reputed
Batchelors and sojourners And further knoweth not the Condition of their
imployments/

To the third hee saith hee doeth not know nor hath understood any thing as to
the demands of this Interrogatorie

To the 4th hee saith hee hath not deposed to the article interrate:-/

To the 5th hee referreth himnselfe to his foregoeing deposition, And further cannot depose

To the 6th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition.

To the 7th hee saith the name of the interrate Wyse is John Wyse, who
was Commander of the shipp the Richard and William the Voiage in question, and
was at Aleppo with the said Captaine hughes, and this rendent knoweth no
other John Wyse but him./

To the 8th hee saith hee knoweth nothing thereof further or otherwise then hee
hath predeposed:/

To the 9th hee saith hee knoweth nothing thereof,./

To the 10th and 11th hee referreth himswelfe to his foregoeing deposition./

Tio the 12th hee saith the said shipp sailed from Cyprus in Companie with the
said shipp Richard and William to Zant and Cefalonia, where they all
stayd about 30. daies in all And further remembreth not/

To the 13th hee saith, hee doth not remember that any shipp pr shipps departed from
Zant or Cephalonia whiles the shipp in Controversie remained there; bound for
England/

To the Interrogatories brought in the 14th of december 1654: [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first negatively for his part, And further cannot depose./

To the second hee knoweth nothing thereof.

To the third negatively for his part, And further knoweth not:-/

To the fourth hee saith hee this rendent was at Porto Longoone interrate when
the dutch fleet blocked it up, and saith the said fleet with drew from thence in
or about the nineth of January 1652. as hee remembreth:/

To the 5. hee saith hee hath knowne the interrate Roger ffowke now English
Consull at Cyprus for about 16. yeares last past, and saith hee is there
reputed to doe factory for severall English Merchants, but knoweth not particularly
for whom./

To the 6th hee saith, That hee this rendent hath been severall Voiages in Turkey
but never at Cyprus till this voiage, and that the hostility between the Tripoly
men of warr and the English hath been publiquely taken notice of for many
yeares last past, as also that the ffrench have for some yeares before this rendent
last being at Cyprus seized and surprized English shipps and goods coming
from Turkey And so much hee beleeveth hath been generally observed
