further saith that the said person that soe bought them first, lived above
100 miles from the place where they were sold, soe that it seames that
(as hee saith) there was good notice given of the sale of the said goods.
To the 6 hee saith that shortly before the said seizure, the said fleete
had taken a small vessell laden with salt which they afterwards finding
to be Swedish, they let her goe, and carried the John Baptist with
them with generall consent of the ffleete taking her and her
lading to be clearly prize. And otherwise hee cannot depose saving
as aforesaid.

Examined upon an allegation in the acts
of the 14th instant.

Walter devereux of Waterford in Ireland merchant
aged 30 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined.
To the said allegation hee saith that hee hath in theise 12 yeares last
as a merchant frequented the ports of fflanders, ffrance, Spaine
and Ireland, and thereby well knoweth that it is and hath bin usuall
there for merchants to enter goods in the Customehouses in the names
of others then such as are the true proprietors thereof, and this
deponent hath often done the same, and this deponents factors have
often donne the like, namely they have entred his goods in
their owne names. And this deponent hath in fflannders seane a
ticket of goods entred in the Custome house at London in the name
of a merchant here Resident, when as a merchant dwelling in
fflannders hath of his knowledge bin the true proprietor thereof
And therefore hee saith that the entrie of goods at the Customehouse
in such a mans name, is not amongest merchants accompted any
proofe of his proprietie therein. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the first hee saith hee had recommendation from merchants in flanders
to Mr Prince for assistance in this citie, and that upon discourse about the
matters predeposed, Mr Prince finding that hee had used severall
forraigne ports and knewe something of the premises, desired him to come
and be a witnesse in this businesse, and saith hee is worth 100 li in his
owne cleere estate, and hath noe relation to Mr Prince.
To the second and third hee cannot depose for hee was never at
Gottenburgh, nor knoweth the usages and customes there.
To the fourth hee hath not soe deposed.
To the 5th hee saith hee hath knowne Mr Prince about a moneth, and knoweth
that hee hath a servant named Thomas. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
