have seene or heard of the same, which hee saith hee did not. And
otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the second article hee saith and deposeth that within theise 3 monethes
last, the master of the shipp arlate the Successe came severall
times to this deponent to his house in Wappinge and demanded and
asked of himn this deponent if it were the said shipp the dove
that had run him over upon the well, and this deponent answering
noe, the said master [?XXX] and perswaded him this deponent to say
that it was the said shipp the dove that had se donne, and this
deponent still saying that it was not the dove (as in truth it was not)
the said master of the Successe carried him to the alehouse and
gave him drinke, and afterwards came againe to this deponents said
house and would needs have perswaded this deponent that hee
this deponent had confessed or said that it was the dove that had
donne him that dammage, whereas this deponent had never
soe said, And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the third article hee saith that the bowe of the said shipp
the dove was amended after her arivall the said voyage at Newcastle
by having a peece graven into her head, which did not happen
nor was donne because it was broken with running against another
shipp, but because the old peece which was taken out was
rotten and unserviceable, all which hee knoweth because hee
thiss deponent did the said repaire, and otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the last hee saith hee this deponent hath not at any time
confessed or said that the said dammage was donne by the dove
her company, and if hee should have soe said hee should
have spoken that which was not rue. And otherwise hee cannot
depose.

Thomas Spratling of Shadwell in the County of Middlesex
Mariner, aged 70 yeares or thereabouts sworne and
examined.

To the first article hee saith that hee was Cooke of the said
shipp the dove arlate (whereof Walter Cable was and is master)
in her last voyage from London for Newcastle in August last
and thereby well knoweth that in all her passage from
Gravesend to the time of her comming within the barr at
Newcastle shee did not touch any shipp or vessell whatsoever
neither did the said shipp the dove ever soe much touch the
shipp the Successe arlate in all that voyage, nor did this deponent
ever see the said shipp the Successe in all that passage
And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the second hee cannpt depose saving as aforesaid, and
saving that hee hath heard that the master of the Successe
arlate
