Transcription

Credibly heard That the said shipp the Goulden Sunn after her arrivall in
fflanders with her said Ladeing; did remaine for a long time at dunquirke in
expectation of a freight for Spaine, but that shee was at Amsterdam or any other
Port or place in the United Netherlands after her such arrivall and discharge
in fflanders with her said ladeing, this deponent hath not heard. The premisses hee
deposeth, as being an eye Wyttnesse of the said respective departures of the said shipp the Golden
Sunn, and of the three shipps predeposed, and observing the arrivall of the said Plate
fleet. and being then as aforesaid Shipps Carpenter of and aboard the said shipp the Salvador.
And further hee cannot depose./

To the Crosse Interrogatories:-/ [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first hee saith hee is a Native of Lubeck, and there hath had his fixed
aboad from his birth, And otherwise negatively./

To the 2d hee saith, hee this rendent is by trade a Shipwright, and saith hee
this rendent hath bin twice at Amsterdam within the time interrate; and
saith that the first time of his being there, hee remained there about 2
moneths, and the last about 6. or 7. moneths, And saith that hee this deponent
saw the said shipp Sampson, and was in her at Lubeck when shee was
originally built at Lubeck about 9. yeares since, but never saw her at
Amsterdam./

To the 3. hee saith, That the name of the Shipwright who built the shipp the
Sampson interrate was and is Jurian Steechman a Burgher of Lubeck
and saith that hee knoweth not nor can at present call to remembrance the
names of such servants and assistents as the said Steechman then employed
in and about the building of the said shipp, but saith they were of the Citie
or Countrey neere adjacent to the Citie of Lubeck, And saith hee cannot
further depose./:-

To the 4th hee saith hee doeth not know nor hath ever heard that any
hollanders have at any time built or caused any shipp or shipps to be
built at Lubeck for their use or accompy./

To the 5th hee saith hee hath not at all within the time interrate seene the shipp
the Sampson or Otto George interrate at Lubeck/:-

To the 6th hee saith, hee this rendent hath knowne the interrate Otto George
for about 11. or 12. yeares before his death, and saith hee knoweth not well
where the said Otto George was borne, but saith hee died a married man
haveing and keeping his wife at Lubeck for manie yeares before his death, being
there married to the daughter of one Schult a very rich and considerable
Burgher there./

To the 7. and 8th hee saith hee hath not deposed to the articles interrate:-

To the 9th hee saith hee knoweth not nor hath ever observed any thing as to this

"11. ‘The case concerning the Sampson and other silver ships, stated in the matter of fact, and an opinion thereupon in the Admiral Court’, addressed ‘Forthe Lord Commissioner Whitelocke’. These ships having been laden in Spain and being bound to the United Provinces, were by the wayseized in the Downs. The Court had ordered Otto George, master of the Sampson, to specify the names of the persons to whom the goods belonged, and of those to whom they were assigned.
