To the 5th Interrogatorie hee answereth and saith by Vertue of his oath, That since
the said ship the Sampson departed from Lubeck in the yeare 1647. interrate, This
deponent never saw the interrate ship nor Otto George her Master and Commander
till such time as the said ship and Master were seized and brought up to this Citie and
in the River of Thames, And further cannot depose./
To the 6th hee saith, hee hath knowne the interrate Otto George for about 16
yeares before his death, and saith hee doeth not exactly knowe what Countryman
the said Otto was by birth, And sayeth hee died a married man, having his wife
and family in Lubeck from the yeare 1647. interrate till the time of his death./
To the 7th hee saith this rendent was as aforesaid, at Amsterdam about
three yeares since, And saith hee knoweth not the estates nor ever consulted with the [?Coffers]
of Brokers or Inne keepers residing at Amsterdam, for which reason hee saith hee
can give no further satisfaction to the Contents of this Interrogatorie, saving hee
beleeveth that persons of those professions are as capable as any others to be
partners in shipps, if they have wherewith to pay for their parts, without any impediment
or exception./
To the 8th hee saith, That according to the common voice and fame at Lubeck
the ship the Sampson interrate upon her first departure from Lubeck after her
building as predeposed, sailed directly from Lubeck to Spaine and not to
Amsterdam, neither was shee at Amsterdam in the yeare 1647. interrate, as hee
constantly beleeveth, and saith the said ship made one voyage from Spaine
to Amsterdam, but in what yeare this deponent remembreth not, And saith hee
never heard that the said ship Sampson ever returned to Lubeck since her first
departure thence as aforesaid. And further cannot depose/:-
To the 9th hee saith hee beleeveth a Trumpetter may become an Officer or common
man upon diverse shipps, and yet being so a common man may be called and
distinguished from others by his former name and notion of a Trumpeter. And
further cannot depose./
