sometimes onely two men or two men and a boy aboard, which were not sufficient
for the mooreing of the said shipp) shee came fowle of the said shipp the
Margarett and broke her boltspritt and some roapes blockes and other
things belonging to the said vessell the Margaret, which being then suddenly
to proceed to sea upon a Voyadge, the said Robert ffox her Master after
hee had caused the said shipp the Margaret to be viewed by understanding
shipps Carpenters procured a new boltspritt with the other dammaged tackle
to be made and repaired and putt in the said shipp, whereby shee was made
fitt and strong for her intended imployment. The premisses hee knoweth
being as aforesaid Gunner of and belonging to the said Vessell the
Margaret when the premisses so happned, and saw and observed the ame
And further hee cannot depose:/

To the fifth and 6th articles hee saith, That shortly after the said new
bolspritt was made and putt in the said Vessell the Margaret as
aforesaid videlicet towards the Later end of the said moneth of November
1653. the said Vessell the May flower did the second time by the
carlessnesse of the said White and Companie come fowle upon the
said Vessell the Margarett, and came thwart her hawse, and cracked
the new boltspritt, insomuch that the said ffox and Companie being
then suddenly to depart upon their intended voyadge for Virginia, were
constrained to repaire the said boltspritt with feshes of wood and roapes
bound about to render the same serviceable for their [?XX] intended voyage, and
saith That after the said shipp the Margaret by reason of the bruising and
disabling of the said boltspritt the second time had with great difficultie and
danger arrived at Virginia, the said foxe and Companie were constrained
to take out the said boltspritt and to putt in a new one there; And this
deponent further saith hee verily beleeveth, That by reason of the said
falling fowle of the said shipp the May flower upon the said Vessell the
Margaret, (as hee hath predeposed) the said Benjamin Crandley Arthur
Baily and Companie, did lay out in necessary expenses for the said new
boltspritt at the first time and repairing of it the second time, and putting in
a new boltspritt at Virginia, the suummes of thirty pounds sterling or
thereabouts in this deponents Judgment and estimation, this deponent, this deponent having heard the
said Robert ffox sewerall times declare before their departure from England
upon the said Voyage, that hee had sett downe in his booke of accompts two
and twentie pounds and fifteen shillings sterling upon the said Owners
accompt upon the Occasion aforesaid, and beleeveth the rest or the
(Valew
