The 23th of November 1654. [CENTRE HEADING]
6.
William Wilmore of the parish of Saint Buttolph without
Algate London Mariner aged two and thirtie yeares or
thereabouts, sworne and examined as aforesaid, saith
and deposeth by vertue of his oath.
That hee this deponent hath well knowne the shipp the Angelo
Custoda (whereof Stephano Romanello was late Commander)
for theise foure or five yeares last having severall times seene her at Venice in that space, And saith
that Signor Peter Jenardi gentleman of Venice, was here in this citie
in the summer time last past, and having acquaintance with
this deponent hee told this deponent here in London severall times in the
monethes of May and June last that hee expected to have newes of the said
shipp the Angelo Custoda which hee said was comming from Venice
for hamborough laden with brimstone, Rice, Currans and other
goods, and that hee was owner of the said shipp and goods, and that being upon his departure
from hence for Amsterdam, hee tooke order with this deponent
being a Mariner, that if shee arived or touched at any place
in England, hee this deponent upon notice thereof should god downe
to her and goe aboard her to pilot her to her port and to be sopracargo
and have a care of the Merchants goods aboard her, and then
the said Signor Jenardi in or about the beginning of July last departed
from England to goe for Amsterdam; And from that time this deponent [?harkening]
after the said shipps arivall, hee had newes here in London
in August last that on the seaventeenth day (old stile0
of the said moneth shee was arived in the downes; whereupon
the 18th day of the said moneth this deponent accompanied with
his precontest Lawrance Paganoni went downe for dover,
where ariving hee understood that
the said shipp was in greate danger through a storme shee had met with and was comming from the downes
for dover upon life and death, and thereupon this deponent going
to the Peir, hee sawe the said shipp the Angelo Custoda
sitting and striking very [?sorely] upon the sands
within the Peir head whether shee was forced to come to save the lives
of the men, and sawe that shee had lost her cables and anchors
and was in a pittifull torne condition being haled inn
with a cable made fast unto her and to the shore, and saith that after sgee
was soe come in, hee this deponent went aboard her and
understood by the companie that shee had received in soe
much water, and was soe splitt and brake that they
woud not venter their lives any further in herm howbeit
this deponent perswaded them that shee
being repaired soe as too be able to goe to London
they would bring her thither whereunto with much [?XXX] they
condiscended, and saith after her arivall in the port of
London
