Transcription

To the 14th hee saith hee this deponent and the sayd Tresanere and Compa=
ny did all that they could to have preserved the saud shipp dope from running on
ground, and after she was on ground to have recovered her, and beleeveth
if there had bin a boate belonging to either the dope or the Venter aforesayd
there had bin good probability and hopes of saving the dope and her ladeing
and further hee cannot depose./

To the 15th hee saith the shipp the dope was a dutch built shipp as hee
this deponent observed by her mould and make, and further hee cannot depose/

To the 16th hee cannot depose/

To the Interrogatories./ [CENTRE HEADING]

To the first and only Interrogatorie hee saith hee cometh to testifie in this cause at the request
of the sayd Tobias Barnes and hath receaved nothing nor expecteth or is
promised ought for his testimony And saith it was in the moneth of
May last when the sayd Tobias Barnes was on shoare at Yarmouth as
is predeposed and upon a friday but what day of the moneth hee remembreth
not And otherwise saving his foregoeing deposition to which hee referreth
hee cannot depose./

Thomas Smith of yarmouth in the County
of Norfolk maryner aged 42 yeares or there=
abouts a witnes produced sworne and examined
saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet:

To the seaventh article of the sayd allegation hee saith
and deposeth that hee hath well knowne the arlate David
Cant for these 20 yeares last past, and saith hee is a
very able and sufficient Pilot and hath divers times of this
deponents knowledge taken charge of and Pilotted divers
shipps both English and Scotts from yarmouth to London
which this deponent knoweth haveing bin a master of divers
vessells any time these 24 yeares last past, and sailing
betweene London and yarmouth, and the said Cant haveing
bin one of this deponents Company att severall times in
att least 7. yeares with in the time aforesaid, and for a very sufficient
Pilot the said Cant att Yarmouth and other places where hee is
knowne and is generally reputed and taken and otherwise hee cannot
depose./
