The Clayme of Edward Peters of Antwerpe}
for one barr of sylver of the first marke and}
number underwritten conteyning one hundred}
twenty and five markes and two ounces and}
two baggs No.1. 2. each containing one}
thousand peices of eight, and allso for two}
little barrells of the second marke in the}
margent weighing together forty six}
markes one ounce and an halfe lately seized}
in the shipp Morning Starr of Which Michael}
Van Lubkin is Master by some of the shipps}
of this Commonwealth. Suckley. Budd}

Examined upon an Allegation on the behalfe
of the sayd Edward Peters.

Anthony Lewis of Antwerpe
in Brabant merchant and Cashier
of the sayd Edward Peters, aged thirty
yeares or thereabouts a witnes sworne
and examined deposeth and saith as
followeth. videlicet.

To the first Article of the sayd Allegation This deponent saith that the
arlate Edward Peters of Antwerpe is a merchant that for theis
five yeares last past of the certaine knowledge of him this deponent
hath constantly traded to Spaine for sylver and other Commodityes
and for all that tyme hath had divers Correspondents factors and Agents
att Cadiz and Saint Lucar and other parts in Spaine, and hath had diverse
goods and effects of great value remaining in the hands of such his
factors and Correspondents, and for and as such the sayd Edward Peters
hath bene and is commonly accounted reputed and taken, the premisses
he knoweth to be true being Cashier and Booke keeper of the sayd Edward
Peters for theis six yeares last past, and in that tyme hath writt severall
letters to and receyved letters from the sayd ffactors of Edward Peters
and hath bene and is particularly and specially acquainted with the trade
and dealing of the sayd Edward Peters in that behalfe. And otherwise
he cannot depose.

To the second and third Articles of the sayd allegation and to the schedules
or bill of lading therein mentioned and now shewne him, This deponent
saith and deposeth that within the tyme arlate and more especially about
the latter end of November or beginning of december 1652. William
Janson the producents factor in Cadiz did lade and putt aboard the sayd
shipp the Morning Star Michael Van Lubkin Master then lyeing before Cadiz
the arlate one barr of sylver No 4612. and marked as in the margent

weighing one hundred twenty five markes and two ounces, and allso two baggs
No. 1. 2. conteyning two thousand peices of 8/8 of Peru moneyes to be transported
in the sayd shipp from Cadiz aforesayd to dunkerke for the proper Accompt
and Adventure of the sayd Edward Peters and there to be delivered for
his use and Accompt, And that the sayd Michael Van Lubkin did afterwards
signe three bills of lading all of one tenor for the same, and that
the first bill of lading or schedule now showne was and is one of the
sayd bills, and was really signed att Cadiz and the Contents thereof
were and are true, The Reason of this deponents knowledge in theis
presents was and is that he this deponent being the producents bookkeeper
was privy to and knoweing of the sending of severall goods and
merchandizes from the producent to Cadiz to him the sayd William
Janson residing there, and knoweth that the goods so sent were the
producents owne goods, and that the producent did by letters of advise
which this deponent himselfe did write give expressse order to the
sayd William Janson to make him returnes thereof to fflanders in sylver
and
