Hojar Petro of Spawham in Persia Marchant
aged 23 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined
deposeth.
To the fowerth article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth
that after such tyme as the producent John Francisco Cordij had
had put the Rice in this cause claymed abord the ship
the Royall the said ship sayled therewith towards leghorne to which port shee
was bound to discharge and in the said ships Course hee saith shee
mett with the shippe the Saint Martyn arlate at Malta which then was
bound from Smirna to the same Port and with her sailed in companie
together by the space of about two and twentye dayes before they were
seized by the Parliaments ffleete And saith that dureing such tyme
of the said ships soe sayleing together from Malta towards Leghorne and dureing theire abode together at [?malta]
Captaines and Companies of each ship did frequently come abord and
converse each with the other this deponent being a passenger abord the
Saint Martyn in which hee had goods did allsoe goe from abord that ship into
the Royall and dureing such his being there hee saith hee did heare the
Commander and diverse of her company say and in theire discourse
comonly affirme that the said ships ladeing of Rice was put abord
her at [?Raff?Xa] by the said John Francisco Cordj and that the same
was by him consigned to bee delivered at Leghorne unto the arlate
Paulo Maria Cordj his Brother, both which said persons hee saith are
very well knowne unto this deponent. And otherwise hee saith
hee cannot depose.
To the 5th article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth That in the
said ship the Ryalls passage for Ligon[?a] shee was mett withall
surprized and taken neare Corsica by a squadron of 8 ships under
the comand of the arlate Captaine Hall and by hin was brought into
the River of Thames, att which tyme of the said surprizeall hee saith
the said Rice was abord her. The premisses hee deposeth because
hee this deponent was abord the Saint Martyn which was allsoe in company
of and seized with the said ship the Royall And further hee cannot
depose.
To the 6th article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth That the said
John Francisco Cordj and Paulo Maria Cordj were and at this present
are Inhabitants of and dwellers in Ligorn[?a] where they have theire
howses and families constantly resideing. And saith they are Italians
by byrth and subiects of the Duke of Tuscany and for such they
the said parties were and are comonly accompted reputed and taken, which
hee knoweth because hee is very well acquainted with and well knoweth
both the said parties and theire habitations and hath often
conversed with them And further hee cannot depose
To the rest hee is not Examined by direction of Mr Smith
