out from thence and in theise or the like words said
[Gentlemen. I charge you every one upon perill of the losse
of youre wages and as you tender the good and wellfare of the
ship the Lawrerell and her ladeing and the profitt of the owners
Merchants freighters thereof that you doe not app[?ose]
the said Men sent in the said Man of warres boate
but that you quietly permitt them to come abord and serach the ship:] Adding further, that if any mischance should
happen by such [?apposition] then they shoud beare the blame that
made the [?apposition] and that if any thing otherwise then w[?ell]
happened unto any of them for observeing
of his Commands then hee would make good the same
with his estate and fortune or soe in effect. whereupon hee
saith the said Men came againe in the man of warres
boat and then by reson of the said commands and sayeings of
the said Maplisden they were permitted to enter and come abord
the Lawrell, and that hee saith the said Maplisden sent for halfe
of his company to come to him which they did and soe by th[?ose]
meanes and in obedience to his comands left the said ship
the Lawrell with and in the possession of the other halfe of her
Company (whereof this deponent were two (sic)) but under the
power of the said Armed men belonging to the said Man of warre
where they stayed a while and then hee the said Robert Hicks saith there was another
boate sent from the said Man of warre which brought a note from
the said Maplisden by which hee desired all the rest of his Company
to come abord tto him in the said Man of warre. there to
testifie to some Act of his, which done they should returne
againe upon reading of which Note theise deponents withall the
rest of his Company abord with him went forthwith to theire said
Commander abord the said ffrench man of warre, where they
were noe sooner come but they were all of them forthwith
seized upon and secured and kept Prisoners and after about 48 howers
detention they thesise deponents with all the rest of the Company belonging
to the Lawrell being about 5 in number together with one
[XXXman] were about midnight turned and put into theire owne
boate and soe put to shift for theire lives which with much
danger and hazard they secured by gayneing
the shore att Ca[XX] Cursego, where they landed amongest a barbarous
and a strange people. leaveing the said Mr. Maplisden, and
the Cape merchant of the Lawrell abord the said Man of warre and
the said ship the Lawrell abord the said Mann of warre and
the said ship the Lawrell in the Custoday of the Company belonging
to
