bring his Cheife Mate and his Purser with his papers
whereupon the said Mr. Maplisden did forthwith send his Mate
and a [XXXar] in his boate abord the said Man of warre
where they were noe sooner come but they with those that
showed them were with the said boat [?withheld] and detayned fore comeing back
which Action gave thiese deponents and all the rest of the company
abord the Lawrell great cause of distrust and doubt that they
intended some iniurye unto the said shippe and that they
would seize or surprize her. And further they these deponents say that ymediately
after the premisses the Commander of the said Man of warre
sent his Leiuetenant with 11 or 12 more of his company in his voat
abord the Lawrell where being come the said Mr. Maplisden came
up and mett the said Lieutenant in the [?w]ast of his said shippe and
after a salutation of him went along with him into his Round house, in which
place the stayed privately a small space and then returned out againe and
soe the said Lieutenant with the said company which came with him and
the said Maplisden Master or Comander of the Lawrell went into the said
Boat and were from thence carryed abord the said Man of Warre,
And soone after theire arrivall thither the said Boate was [?hawled GUTTER]
up to the Gunne Roome Port of the said Man of Warre and from
thence theise deponents sawe that there were a greate number of
Armes as swords Pistolls Cutlases Pole Axes and other weapons [?PUT GUTTER]
into the said Boat which being done there came about 38 or 40
men from aboard the said Man of warre into the said Boate and
from thence came ymediatly to the Lawrell and then and there demanded
halfe of the Lawrells Company to come aboard the said Boat and to [?permit GUTTER]
halfe of them in the boate to come abord armed into the said shipp[?e GUTTER]
but the Company abord the Lawrell being as aforesaid
jealous of the Actions and carriages of the Company of the said Man of
Warre would not condiscehend thereunto but denied them [?admission GUTTER]
unlesse they would come without theire Armes which they refised to
leave, but forthwith returned againe and told theire Commander
what answere they of the Lawrell had given them whereupon
the said Commander said hee would come abord them with his
ship to which answere was returned from the Lawrell that they were
ready for him, come when hee would, (The said two shipps being[?e GUTTER
then close each by the other.) And then hee saith the said Mr
Maplisden commander of the Lawrell (being abord the said Man of
Warre and perceaveing that his company would not permitt
the said men soe sent Armed to come abord) did call
