Jacob Lucie was the brother of Luke Lucie and of Elizabeth Blackman, widow of Capt. Jeremy Blackman.

In his will he refers to plantations in Barbados, Jamaica and Antigua.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN The one and twentyeth day of September Anno Dom One thousand six hundred eighty six and in the second yeare of the reigne of our sovereigne Lord James the second by the grace of God of England Scotland ffrance and Ireland King defender of the ffaith x:r I Jacob Lucie of the parish of S:t Katherine Coleman London Esquire being in good health of body and of perfect and sound mind and memory praised be God therefore) but considering the frailty and uncertainty of this present life Doe therefore make and ordaine this my present Testament containing therein my last Will in manner and forme following that is to say

FFIRST and principally I recommend my soule into the hands of Almighty God my Maker and Creator hopeing and stedfastly beleiving through this grace and the alone merits of Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer to receive full and free pardon and forgivenesse of all my sins and life everlasting My body I committ to the earth to be buryed in the parish Church of S:t Katherine Coleman in London in the grave of my Mother Brother and deare Wife there interred in such decent and christian manner as to my Executrix hereunder named shallseeme meete And it is my will that all such debts as I shall owe and be indebted unto any person or persons at the time of my decease shall be truely paid by my executrix within as shorte time after my decease as my be conveniently And as touching that worldly means and estate bothe reall and personall which it hath pleased Almighty God of his mercy and goodnesse to bestow upon me the debts oweing by meand my funerall charges thereout first paid or deducted I doe give and devise bequeath appoint and dispose thereofas followeth

FFIRST I give and devise unto my deare and loveing daughter Elizabeth Lucie and her heires forever all that my plantation in the Island of Barbadoes which is now managed by Richard Harwood Esq. called the seaven hundred acres als Apters ffarme als Mount Lucie or by whatsoever the same is called or knowne and my stocke belonging to the said plantacon as Negros cattle

Coppers Mills Goods comodities implements utensills and all things belonging or appertaining to the said plantation And all that my house at or neare the Bridge in Barbados which was lately built by Roger de ?Hem ?snre deceased at my charge since the late fire in Barbados

ITEM I give and devise unto my said daughter and her heires for ever my halfe parte of the plantation in Antigua which was managed by John Lewin and now by John Hamlin and all the Negros and all things belonging to the half parte of the said plantation

ITEM I give and devise unto my said daughter Elizabeth Lucie and her heires forever All that my fourth parte of the plantation in Jamaica which was lately managed by Cornelius Struys for the accompt of me and John Harris and Robert Bowyer and whereof I and the said John Harris and Robert Bowyer have lately coveyed our fourth parte to the said Cornelius Struys And I give unto my said daughter one fourth parte of the stock of the said last mencioned plantacion

ITEM I give and devise unto my said daughter and her heires forever my third parte of a moyety of two hundred forty and three acres of Land Meadow or pasture in the parish of S:t Andrew in Jamaica aforesaid which moyety was by me and the said John Harris and Robert Bowyer lately purchased in ffee simple of and from the said Cornelius Struys And I give to my said daughter my fourth parte of sixteene breeding cowes put or agreed to be put at on the said two hundred forty and three acres of Land with the fourth parte of the increase and benefitt ariseing or to arise by the said sixteene Cowes

ITEM I give and devise unto my said daughter and her heires forever all my parte share and proporcion of and in my now dwelling house in ffenchurch streete London and all the Messuages or Tenements and grounds with the appurtenances to me belonging scituate in and neare Bush Lane London which I hold by vertue of the purchase sold to me by Richard Walcott Esq, And all other my Lands and hereditaments in England and all the rents and profitts payable unto me out of the same and every of them

ITEM I give and devise unto my said Daughter and her heires forever all other my Lands Tenements and Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever whereof I stand seized of any estate of inheritance

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my nephew John Boevy (sic) sonne of my sister Dame Anne Smith by her late husband William Boevy Merchant deceased the summe of One hundred pounds of lawfull money of England

ITEM I give unto William Regimorter sonne of my sister Elizabeth Armiger of her first husband Ahasuerus Regimorter Doctor in Phisick the summe of one hundred And one hundred pounds to my Nephew Lucie Blackman sonne of my said sister Elizabeth Armiger by her second husband Jeremy Blackman Esq decd besides the debt hee owes mee by bond being one hundred fifty and six pounds seaven shillings with all interest due or to be due for the same

ITEM I give to my Godson John Blackman sonne of my said Nephew Lucie Blackman the summe of one hundred pounds And unto my Neices Elizabeth and Lucie S:t John the daughters of Benjamin S:t John of ?Coleoverton in the County of Leicester Esq the summe of One hundred pounds apeice

ITEM I give and bequeath unto my said Neice Elizabeth S:t John for and during the terme of her naturall life the Annuity or yearly summe of ffifty pounds to be be paid unto her out of the produce in Barbados And unto my neice Elizabeth ?Cave (Or, Cove) for and during the terme of her naturall

the Annuity or yearly summe of Tenne pounds to be paid out of the produce of my said plantation in Barbados

ITEM I give unto my Bookekeeper John Oriot Thirty pounds And to my servant John Bury Thirty pounds

ITEM I give to my servant Elizabeth ?Fenn (Or, Menn) for and during the terme of her naturall life the Annuity or yearly summe of Tenne pounds or One hunded pounds present money in liew of the said Annuity as shee the said Elizabeth XXXX shall like best and this I gvie in respect of the great care she hath had of my said deare and loveing daughter

ITEM I give unto Anne Neale Tenne pounds whether shee lives with me or not And unto the rest of my Maid servants that shall dwell with me at the time of my decease five pounds apeice And to my servant Henry Edge Tenne pounds And to my Coachman Moses Woodyer five pounds

ITEM I give unto the poore of the parish of S:t Katherine Coleman aforesaid the summe of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to remaine as a stock for ever for the poore of the said parish and to be put out at Interest by the Rector Churchwardens and Vestrymen of the said parish for the use of the said poore The Interest whreof shall be laid out in Clothes Coles or otherwise as the said Rector Churchwardens and Vestrymen shall thinke convenient and shall be distributed by the said Rector Churchwardens and Vestrymen amongst the said Poore on the ffirst day of S:t Andrew the Apostle yearly forever And I give to M:r Jeremy Dodson the Rector of the said parish Church of S:t Katherine Coleman Tenne pounds And to M:r ?South the late Lecturer Tenne pounds

ITEM I give to the Poore of the Dutch Church in London the summe of ffifty pounds to be paid for their use to the Deacons of the said Church

ITEM I give to the Ministers of the said Dutch Church in London five pounds apeice

ITEM I give unto my cozen Rowland S:t John One hundred pounds not doubting of his great care and fidelity in the assisting of my said Executrix in the management of my affaires And to my cozen M:r Henry Maynard and my loveing freinds M:r Abraham Bush[1] and M:r James Bush the respective Legacies of fforty pounds apeice And to M:rs Anne ?Hamlyn widow the summe of Tenne pounds And to Hannah Bostick the Nurse the summe of ffive pounds And to Thomas Smith Barber the like summe of ffive pounds

ITEM I give to the poore children of Christs Hospitall in London the summe of One hundred pounds to be paid to the Treasurer of the said Hospitall for their use Alsoe I give unto the Hospitalls of Bridewell S:t Bartholomews and bethlem in or neare London the summe of One hundred pounds apeice All which Legacies by me herein given unto the parties above menconed shall be truely paid unto them within one yeare next after my decease out of the produce of my said Plantation in Barbados And my will and mind is that the said Plantation and all the stock profitt and proceed thereof shall be subject and lyable to the said Legacies while and untill their said Legacies be fully paid The rest and residue of all and singular the goods chattells ready money plate jewells leases householdstuffe wares Merchandises Adventures debts and other things to me belonging and not before in these presents given and bequeathed I doe give and bequeath unto my said deare and loveing daughter Elizabeth Lucie which said Elizabeth my daughter I doe make ordaine and appoint the full and sole Executrix of this my present Testament and last Will

And I doe nominate and appoint my said cozen Rowland

S:t John and the said M:r Henry Maynard M:r Abraham Bush and M:r James Bush the Overseers of this my Will intreating them to be aiding and assisting unto my said Executrix with thier best advice and councell in the execucon of this my Will as future controversies concerning the same thing be prevented

And it is my will and desire that my said cozen Rowland S:t John shall with the consent of my said daughter and the advice of my other Overseers M:r Henry maynard M:r Abraham Bush and m:r James Bush take care of my said plantations and to see they be from time to time well managed to and for the only benefitt profitt and advantage of my said Daughter And in consideration of the great care and trouble that hee will be at in the management of my businesse in relation to the said plantations I will order and appoint and doe hereby give and bequeath unto my said cozen Rowland S:t John the summe of ffifty pounds p Ann and that what sugras my said Daughter shall from yeare to yeare receive and other goods and comodities from my said plantations shall be sold by my said cozen Rowland S:t John for the use of my said daughter and hee shall be allowed him for his commission two and a halfe p cent And that my said Cozen Rowland S:t John shall every Christmas state adjust and settle all accompts and matters belonging to my said plantations with my said Daughter And if my said Daughter shall together with my said three other Overseers approve and allow of the said Accompts Then shee my said Daughter shall give him a discharge for the same And my will and mind is that my said cozen Rowland S:t John shall manage the said plantations and the profitts and proceed thereby accruwing for the use aforesaid soe long as my said daughter pleases And that when my said Daughter shall dismisse or acquitt my said cozen of the said imployment Then the said Legacie of ffifty pounds p Annum by me herein given and bequeathed unto my said cozen Rowland S:t John for his care and trouble shall cease ?determine and be utterly void provided and it it is my will and mind That if my daughter decease unmarryed or if marryed and leave noe issue of her body lawfully begotten In such case I will and appoint my Nephew Lucie Blackman my sole Executor And I give unto my said Nephew Lucie Blackman and the heires Male of his body lawfully begotten or to be begotten my said fourth parte of the said plantation in Jamaica with my Third parte of the said moyety of the Land purchased of Cornelius Struys and my proporcons of the stock of the said plantacon and of the said other Lands in Jamaica And alsoe my halfe parte of the plantacon in Antigua and all the Negroes and all things belonging to the same And my parts of the said house in ffenchurchstreete London And in case of the death of my daughter Elizabeth Lucie and if marryed and leave noe Issue behind her Then I give and devise the said plantation to the said Lucie Blackman and his heires Male And it is my will and mind That the said Lucie Blackman shall pay yearly and every yeare out of the produce of my said plantation in Barbados to my said Nephew John Boevy one hundred pounds p annum To my Nephew William Regimorter One hundred pounds p annum To my Neice Mary Courtnay One hundred pounds p Ann To my neice Elizabeth S:t John One hundred pounds p annum To my cozen Rowland S:t John One hundred pounds p annum To my cozen Elizabeth Cave

Twenty pounds p annum And to my daughters Maid Elizabeth ?Glenne Twenty pounds p annum To be paid unto them dureing their naturall lives and noe longer And it is my further will and mind that if my said Godsonne John Blackmann the sonne of my said Nephew Lucie Blackman shall live to possesse and enjoy my said plantation in Barbados with all the stock there unto belonging Then hee the said John Blackman shall from that time take upon him the name of John Lucie Blackman And if my said Godsonne John Blackman shall dye and departe this life and leave noe Issue Male lawfully begotten behind him Then and in such case the said plantacon and what else that shall come to my said Nephew Lucie Blackman (in case of the death of my daughter without Issue) shall come and accrue to the second sonne of the said Lucie Blackman And hee shall take upon him the name of Jacob Lucie Blackman And in case the second sonne of the said Lucie Blackman shall decease and leave noe Issue Male behind him Then the said plantacon and premisses in Barbados shall come and accfrew unto the next heire male of the said Lucie Blackman lawfully begotten And for want of such Issue Male lawfully begotten by the said Lucie Blackman I give will and appoint what I have herein given and bequeathed unto my said Nephew Lucie Blackman and his heires Male unto my Neice Mary Courtenay and her heires And my will and mind is that my said Neice Mary Courtenay and her heires shall truely pay or cause to pbe paid unto my said Nephew John Boevy Two hundred pounds p annum To my Nephew William Regimorter Two hudnred pounds p annum To my Nephew Lucie Blackmans widow One hudnred pounds per annum And to each daughter of the said Lucie Blackman ffifty pounds p annum apeice To my cozen Rowland S:t John One hundred pounds p annum over and besides his commission for the sale of sugars To my cozen Elizabeth Cave Thirty pounds p annum And to Elizabeth Glenne twenty pounds p annum All which Annuities or yearly summes are to be paid during theri naturall lives and noe longer out of the produce of my said plantacon in Barbados

And I doe hereby utterly revoke renounce and ?adnihilate all former and other Wills Legacies and bequests by meat any time heretofore made and given and doe publish and declare this my present Testament (containing nine sheets of paper to be my very last Will and none other nor otherwise

In witnesse whereof to the first eight sheets of these presents I the said Jacob Lucie have sett my hand and to the nineth and last sheet have sett my hand and seale dated the day and yeare first above written
