Transcription and wrongs done and comitted against them and wrongs done and comitted against them by the<br /> King of Spaine and his Subjects, and for all the foresaid<br /> time there was open and publique warr and hostility<br /> by sea used and practised betweene this Nation and<br /> the King of Spaine and the Subjects and Inhabitants<br /> of each, and within the said time both partyes have at<br /> sea taken and seized the ships and goods of each other<br /> as lawfull Prize, And soe much was and is well knowen<br /> to the articulate William Winter, which hee knoweth<br /> for that hee this Deponent hath during all the said warr<br /> bin Comander of ffrigots in Service of this Nation,<br /> and well knoweth that the said Winter did act<br /> as Lieutenant onboard the ''ffairfax frigot'' in the service<br /> of this nation in the yeere 1658, and<br /> further cannot depose. To the 2.d article hee saith that within the said time and<br /> more particularly in and during all the yeere 1658<br /> the articulate Captaine John Stoaks was Admirall or<br /> Comander in Cheife in the Medeteranian Sea of a Squadron of Ships consisting of<br /> Ten Saile, in the service and pay of this Commonwealth<br /> of England, and one of the said Ships was named<br /> the ''ffairefax ffrigot'', And saith the said Captaine<br /> Stokes was impowered to keepe all the said ten Ships<br /> together under his Comand or to devide them as occasion<br /> should require, and as hee should finde to be ost expedient<br /> and this hee saith is true, publique, and notorious, and<br /> well knowne to the said Winter which hee knoweth for the<br /> reasons aforesaid./.
