Examined upon the sayd Interrogatories.

'''Joseph Smith''' of Ipswich in the County of Suffolke mariner<br />
Late one of the Company of the sayd shipp ''Christopher''. aged<br />
twenty yeares or thereabouts, sworne before the sayd worshippfull<br />
John Godolphin Doctor of Lawes, and one of the Judges of the high<br />
Court of Admiralty, and examined saith and deposeth as<br />
following. videlicet.
To the first Interrogatory This deponent saith he knew the shipp the ''Christopher''<br />
interrate att her last being att Saint Remo neere unto Genua, bound for<br />
London, and was one of the Mariners of her Company the sayd voyage.<br />
And otherwise he cannot depose.
To the second Interrogatory This deponent saith that the sayd Daniel Bradley<br />
the Master of the sayd shipp did lade on board the sayd shipp in the moneth<br />
of December <u>1655</u> last past att Saint Remo aforesayd severall parcells<br />
of wynes, lemmons and Oranges for his owne benefit and aććompt<br />
this deponent being present att the lading thereof and seeing the same<br />
brought on board. And otherwise he cannot depose.
To the third Interrogatory This deponent saith that the sayd shipp having taken<br />
her lading att Saint Remo aforesayd departed from thence in the sayd moneth<br />
of december last past upon her voyage for this port of London. And<br />
in her Course upon the prosecution of such voyage she was mett with<br />
and surprized with all her lading by an Enemy shipp being a<br />
Man of warr formerly belonging to Brest. And the sayd<br />
Daniel Bradleys goods aforesayd were on board her att the tyme<br />
of her the sayd shipp ''Christopher'' being so surprized, and by<br />
meanes thereof were and are become utterly lost to the sayd<br />
Daniel. which hee knoweth for that he was on board the ''Christopher''<br />
att the tyme of the sayd surprizall, and sayled in her under the<br />
Command of the Company of the sayd Man of Warr to a place<br />
in Spayne within the Bay of Biscay called Shesh[?Xne] where<br />
the sayd shipp ''Christopher'' and her lading were confiscat and<br />
made prize of. And otherwise he saith he cannot depose.
