Transcription in question and for which wages in this cain question and for which wages in this cause by the producents<br /> demanded And saith, that the arlate Thomas Johns<br /> Master of the said shippe might if hee had soe thought goods (as<br /> this deponent verily beleeveth) have come away from Alexandria<br /> arlate with his said shipp assoone as other Merchants and Masters<br /> of shipps (then allsoe there) did. And saith that tilla fter the<br /> 12th day of June in Anno domini 1648. there was noe stoppe<br /> or imbargoe made or published of any ships then<br /> remayneing there, But severall ffrench Merchants after<br /> they had paid and discharged a certaine tax or imposition<br /> which was laid upon all Christian shipps then att Alexandria,<br /> upon a tradeing and merchandizeing imployment for Christian Merchants<br /> there (which was and did amount unto 500 Dollers for and upon<br /> every such shippe (as this deponent was there informed) did<br /> upon or about the 6th day of May 1648. after<br /> such payment of the said tax depart and sett sayle from<br /> Alexandria aforesaid whith theire said shipps and ladeing And<br /> hee further deposeth that in case the said Mr Johns would<br /> have parid the said tax (as other Merchants there did, and<br /> as hee himselfe or his merchants did likewise afterwards) hee might have<br /> bin cleered and dispatched with his said shippe as they were<br /> the said shipp the ''Concord'' being as hee saith then laden and in<br /> as much readines to come away as the said ffrench Merchants or Master<br /> were. Et ulteruis deponit that after the said<br /> 6th of May and before the 29th of the said Moneth arlate<br /> there were allsoe two saile more of ffrench vessells then<br /> allsoe att Alexandria arlate (which [?goeing] paid the said tax<br /> or imposition soe laid upon them by the Turks as<br /> aforesaid) were likewise cleered and did sett saile<br /> and depart thence with theire ladeing towards theire severall<br /> Ports; And soe much this deponent saith hee is confident<br /> the arlate Mr Johns might have done if hee would but<br /> have endeavoured and taken the same course that the<br /> said ffrench Masters and Merchants did, hee being as aforesaid<br /> ready to sett sayle att the same tyme that<br /> they did, The premisses he deposeth hee<br /> thisd eponent being att Alexandria the tyme arlate And<br /> seeing the said ffrench ships cleered, and set saile after<br /> theire composition for and payment of the said imposition<br /> as is arlate and well knoweing that the said ship the<br /> ''Concord'' had receaved in her full ladeing and was ready<br /> to depart (if her Master would) as soone as the said ffrench<br /> shipps did Et aliter nescit deponere<br /> saveingaliter nescit deponere<br /> saveing  +
