Arthur Perkins Master, aged about 35 yeeres<br />
Sworne and Examined saith and deposeth<br />
as followeth:
To the first article of the said Allegation hee saith that<br />
the arlate James Jenkins, Thomas Burton and Richard<br />
Netmaker (whom this deponent well knoweth) and Company<br />
were the true and Lawfull owners of the said ship<br />
the ''Hopewell'' in the moneth of December 1657: (in<br />
which moneth shee was set out on the voyage in question).<br />
and soe they Continued and were at the time of<br />
her seizure hereafter mentioned, which hee knoweth<br />
for that in or about the said moneth of December 1657, hee<br />
sawe the said Jenkins and Netmaker on behalfe of themselves<br />
and the rest of the said Ships Owners and alsoe the said Burtons man come to the said Ships<br />
side, and on board her. about giving of orders, and<br />
further deposeth not./:
To the second article hee saith that in or about the said<br />
moneth of December 1657 there was laden and put<br />
on board the said ship in the River of Thames a Cargoe<br />
of Goods consisting in Linnen and Woollen Cloath, East India stuff, Searges,<br />
Beads, Glasses, Muskets, Pistolls, Strongwaters, Brandewines,<br />
white wine and Clarret, Silke Stockings, Suits and Cloakes<br />
shoes, Knives, sizers Combs Pins, Needles, Thimbles, Thred<br />
ffish hooks, Bells, Locks, Lead and severall other Comodityes.<br />
Which said Cargoe of Goods hee saith was soe put aboard<br />
the said Ship for the Account of the said Jenkins Burton<br />
Netmaker and Company the owners of the said ship, And<br />
the said Burtons man came along with most of the<br />
said Cargoe to see it put aboard the said ship<br />
of this Deponents sight and knowledge. And the said Lading<br />
was soe put on board the said ship, to be carried in<br />
her to the Coast of Affrica. there to be barterred<br />
away for Negroes, and Elephants Teeth, and other<br />
Merchandizes, and the said Negroes, Teeth and other merchan-<br />
dizes were to be carried in the said ship to Barbados or<br />
Virginia, there to be trucked away for Tobaccoes<br />
Sugar or other goods for the account of the said<br />
