two hundred twenty and two Chests of sugar, one hundred<br />
and thirteene baggs of shumack and forty Rolls of Tobacco<br />
for the use and accompt of the said Anthonie fernandez<br />
Carvajall, and did shipp the said sewerall goods<br />
on board the said shipp the ''New-England Merchant'', for the<br />
accompt and behoofe aforesaid, and consigned the same to<br />
Newhaven or Roan in france there to be delivered unto the<br />
said Antonio Rodrigues da Morais and Jeronimo and Raphael<br />
Rodrigues Lamego for the accompt aforesaid. And<br />
further to this Article he deposeth not/:-
To the seaventh Article of the said Allegation hee saieth, That it is<br />
publiquely knowne and notorious, That shortly after the<br />
buying and lading of the said 222. chests of sugars, 113. baggs of<br />
shumack and forty Rolls of Tobacco on board the said shipp the<br />
''New England Merchant'', the said goods were all seized upon by<br />
the Officers of the Inquisition at Porto Porto or other Officers<br />
or Ministers of the king of Portugall there as being the goods<br />
of the said Policarpio da Oliveyra, and that the same were<br />
carried on shoare out of the said shipp, and not permitted to<br />
proceed to france but were there kept and detained to the<br />
great losse and prejudice of the said fernandez, upon some<br />
pretence or crime objected against the said Policarpio da Oliveyra<br />
by meanes whereof the said Antonio fernandez Carvajall was<br />
and is deprived of his said hoods, [XXXXX] the premisses hee saieth<br />
he is well assured of by sewerall letters of advise which have<br />
come from Portugall since the seizure of the said shipps lading<br />
and concerning the same. And further to this article he deposeth not

da Oliveijra at the time of the buying lading or seizing of the<br />

same, but that the said goods and merchandizes were really<br />
and truely so bought provided and laden as aforesaid for the<br />
