To the 7th hee saith that since the end of … To the 7th hee saith that since the end of the voyage in question the<br />
shipp ''Alexander'' hath made an other voyage to Virginia by order<br />
(as hee beleeveth) of the arlate Mr Howe who for this last voyage<br />
was and is reputed Owner of the sayd shipp<br />
this hee deponeth goeing Steward of the sayd shipp the sayd last<br />
voyage And further hee cannot depose/
To the 8th hee saith that hee hath used the trade to Virginia for these<br />
fowerteene or fifteene yeares last and thereby knoweth that amongst<br />
Marchants and Mariners tradeing thither fower Virginia hogsheads<br />
of tobaccoe and noe lesse number are accompted to bee a tonne of Virginia<br />
Tobaccoe and that it is a thing well knowne there and taken for granted<br />
amongst Merchants and Mariners that hee that agreeth to bring a<br />
Tonne of Tobaccoe thence agreeth to bring fower Virginia hogsheads<br />
and that the freight of a Tonne of Tobaccoe, and of fower Virginia hogsheads<br />
of Tobaccoe to bee brought from thence is commonly accompted<br />
one and the same And further hee cannot depose/
To the 9th 10th 11th and 12th articles of the sayd allegation hee saith<br />
the sayd shipp the ''Alexander'' the tyme arlate was there fully<br />
laden with Tobaccoe and came home to England soe laden and<br />
that hee well knoweth the sayd shipp if shee could have taken in<br />
any more might have had great quantities of tobaccoe laden<br />
aboard her which came afterwards in Captaine Swanleys shipp who<br />
was at Virginia at the same tyme, and stayed after the ''Alexander'' And<br />
saith that One Thomas Ball after the ''Alexander'' had rowed aboard<br />
her as much ladeing as shee could did bring about fowerteene<br />
hogheads of Tobaccoe to the ''Alexanders'' side and desyred the sayd<br />
Watson to take them aboard the sayd shipp but the sayd Watson<br />
refused to take the same aboard and said hee could not for hee<br />
had as much allready on board as his shipp could carry and soe left<br />
the same behinde in Virginia this hee deponeth being supra cargoe as<br />
aforesayd and thereby well knowing the same
To the 13th hee saith that since the sayd Watson came home from<br />
Virginia hee hath heard him acknowledge and confesse that hee<br />
was (the voyage in question) proffered a hundred and fifty hogsheads<br />
of tobaccoe to be laden aboard the ''Alexander'' over and above the<br />
sixe hundred seaventy and odd hogsheads of Tobaccoe which hee brought<br />
home in her thence And further saving his foregoeing deposition<br />
