Interrogatories saith and deposeth as followeth,
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that the said shipp the ''Hope''
is a new shipp and was lately built at Schedam in holland and that this is
her first voyage, upon which hee saith shee departed from fflushing on the seaventh of
July last new stile bound for Nantes, and saith shee belongeth to the port of fflushing,
and that her owners dwell all there and were and are all subiects of the
States of the United Netherland Provinces, and are by name Evert [?Gisling]
Burgomaster; William Ver Brugg, Giles [?Runnburgh] daniel [?Pela], Jacob van horne, Adrian
Pi;a, John [?Score], Carol Lalleere, the Widowe of Commandeur Bankier,
John Van Oosen, Geleyn Scott, and one Abraham a broker (but his sirname
this deponent remembreth not) which owners caused the said shipp to be built and by
this deponents hands (who was to goe master of her) paid for such her building,
and saith hee was constituted master by the said owners, who were and are natives
of fflushing and have dwelt there all their lives, saving the said John
Van Oosen who hath dwelt there from his youth, but was borne at
Oosen in denmarke, and hee knoweth not but that Giles [?Runburgh] is of Middleborowe by birth,
[?XXXX] the said shipp ''Hope'' was taken in the ffrench coast betwixt deepe and Saint Valery,
To the second hee saith the said shipp went from fflushing to Nantes un
ballast, and carried noe goods thither, and hath bin in noe port or harbour
from the said time of her departure from fflushing to the time of her
seizure but Nantes, only in her outwards course of proceeding, meeting
with contrary winde shee put into Torbay, till the winde served to
proceede for Nantes, which hee knoweth being master of her.
To the third and fourth hee saith that the said shipp is laden with Banck
fish, and that shee was freighted at Nantes by a dutch
Broker named Br[?ager] to take in ffish and carry and deliver the same
at haver de Grace, and that a ffrench man named de La houtsay laded the said fish at Nantes, but the
name of the person to whom the said fish was to be delivered at haver
de Grace hee remembreth not, his bill of lading and Charter partie
being sent over land, but the said person that was to receive the said fish
lived as hee was informed at Roane, but whether the said lading be
belonging to him or to another or what countryman the owner thereof is
hee knoweth not, nor can as hee saith tell what to beleeve therein, having
as hee saith nothing to induce him to beleeve to whom it belongeth, only
hee saith that hee this deponent and companie all dutch men and subiects
of the said States have a thousand fish aboard for their owne accompt
which was laden by them for their owne accompt. But for the said shipp
hee is as hee saith well assured that the foresaid owners of fflushing
are still the sole owners of her and that noe ffrench man or subiect of
the ffrench king hath any interest therein. And further hee saith that
the said fish laden as aforesaid, was all taken out of a fffrench shipp
that came from the Banck, and put thence into the ''Hope'' in the River
of nantes, And otherwise hee saith hee cannot depose, saving as
aforesaid.
To the fifth hee saith that the said voyage was to end at haver de Grace
